many years ago when i was still on the farm there was another old timer farmer who we got apples and peaches from. in exchange we would keep the deer under check in his orchards.
he had an old barn on the back of the property.
there were 2 1914 Harleys , 2 1915 Ariel's, 2 1916 Douglas bikes, and 2 1917 Indians in it.
there was also a mixture of old cars in there, a few model T's a few model A's a Cord, and an Auburn boat-tail speedster.
talking to him one day he told me when he was young he bought them new and rode them for one year them put them away.
when i asked why 2 of each his answer was so he had parts if one broke.
i offered to buy them and restore them and he refused.
when he finally died his sisters let the property go to hell, and the barn collapsed on the bikes and cars.
they then burned the barn pile to get rid of it never knowing there was probably 2-3 million dollars worth of antique motorcycles and cars in it

made all of us sick when we heard the news Gerry.
they were all in excellent condition, both cars and bikes.
basically brand new except for being covered with wool tarps and 60+ years of dust and pigeon crap

i never even heard of a Douglas motorbike before that. i want to the local honda bealer and asked him because he had a 21 Ariel in the front window of his showroom.
as soon as i mentioned the Douglas he said something to the effect of "oh, you heard about old Charlie, huh"
it blew his mind when i told him no i did not hear about them, i actually saw the bikes and cars.
i was also sworn to secrecy to never tell anyone where they were or about the barn.
it was hidden in a small glen that was pretty much inaccessible unless you knew how to get in there.
the only reason i found it was we had full access to the property due to culling the deer.

A buddy sent these to me and not sure when this happened. Cerntainly an "oh sheet " moment for both the engineer and the truck driver.

I think all that's left of the engineer is his shorts.
