I can think of one example where that is not true. I do some banking with one of the big name banks. They get no money out of me and as far as I know it is quite illegal to sell my information. All my loans are from local small banks.
I have know interest in Facebook, my info is my business and have no need to share it with the world other than the chit I post on here....lol
I keep wondering how long to wait to get lifelock or some similar product. There are so many ways we leave tidbits or large amounts of information out there.

I'm with you on this one. I don't have Facebook, my wife and two daughters do and I hear EVERYTHING that goes on with it! I do monitor what my daughters put on there though.
It's kind of ingenious, really. Things like Facebook get you coming back over and over while selling you to the advertisers....
It really is. I know and agree with all these dangers and such with using it and yet I cannot convince myself to get off of it. At the same time, even if I did "delete" my account, all that does is make it invisible to the public. FB keeps all the information and is dutifully waiting for the enlightened to return to awaken the "deleted" accounts.
I use the term enlightened to refer to those smart enough to quit facebook or never have started one in the first place.
