The Beggining of a 1960 F100 Project
I have a 1960 f100 custom cab 4x4. What engine is in it? Will the carb need rebuilt? It has sat for up to ten years. Also the axle has snapped right next to the differential. Do you guys have any good ideas on how to get a new one. And as long as I'm asking questions ; if you do know what engine i have what mpg can I expect to get?

Post up your trucks vin #s and if Bill (Numbersdummy) is scanning this forum he will be able to tell you what the truck had when it rolled off the assembly line. He may be able to tell you what year trucks beside yours that you will be able to harvest a new rear end out of to replace your broken one. Make sure you list all numbers on that tag if you can find it. Others here may be able to help you too. I play with these trucks in the relm of 61-66 so dont know alot about the fridges. Good luck.

Well we really can't say what engine you have but we can tell you what engine it should have. For V8 it should have the 292 and for I6 it should be a 223 (i think). Now if thats what in there now who knows. Since its 4x4 it might very well have been messed with in the past. The 4x4s are fairly uncommon so its possible that it might have been converted to 4x4 with a whole new drive train. Heck it might even have a chevy drivetrain in it. If it is the 292 it should have a goofy cross over exhaust system on the front of the motor and two valve cover bolts per side. A useful link maybe.

Assuming the Axel is a ford 9in parts should be easy to find for it and available at every local salvage yard and aftermarket supplier. some pictures might help identify just what you have.
