Saw the following Scan Gauge II deal on Amazon today and figured I'd pass it on. $122.33 with free shipping.

what software version is it? the new verison is 4.02. I call scangauge and talked with them about the low price gauge that is for sell on amazon and they told me was it has a lower firmware version. they said it was old stock. for $25.00 dollars plus shipping scangauge will upgrade the software for the older/lower versions.

They are trying to improve the Scan portion of the unit. They now have a way to scan pending codes, but I have not seen it perform to the level it really needs to. fixxxer-upper tried it and it did show like 7 DTCs pending, yet it wouldn't show what those codes were. LinearLogic in an e-mail said that it was probably due to being Ford specific codes. But, I did a search and they seem to be used by all manufacturers. So, it might be an issue with just diesel.

I'm waiting to send mine back when they get it improved further.

The unit will allow you to force clear those pendings.

I'm already able to read and clear codes with my old Insight. So if that's the only difference in the ScanGauge sofware versions, I'm not too concerned about it. Thanks for the info!

It does read and clear codes. What we have been finding was the "pending codes". Scangauge provided a Xgauge that reads pending codes, codes that do not set the CEL. It wouldn't read those. So, they are getting it better. There are a lot of code readers that will not pull those pending codes either.

Even with the lower version of software, that is a good price for a tool to go truck shopping with.

I think Linear will update firmware for free if you have POP dated for 2011. Think I ran across this on their website.

Found it...from their website "Upgrade your ScanGauge for free if it was purchased on or after January 1st, 2011 and you do not have at least version 4.02"

Upgrade : Linear Logic - Home of the ScanGauge

No doubt, $122 is a really good price for brand new.

However, I just snagged a used one last week for $80 that works great. I was curious about whether or not it is worth the extra $25 to update the ScanGauge's firmware.

Not for me yet. I'll wait for another version to be released, then think it over.

How can you guys tell what version the amazon ones are?

If it is an older version, is it a lot less capable than a newer one?

I'm thinking of getting one myself, but will it be vastly less superior than up to date ones?
