New Dodge Magnum Truck

Let me set the record straight. I do not like or want anything with Dodge on it, but I am curious. Has anyone seen a new Dodge Magnum truck race a new Ford Lighting yet.

I suppose you are talking about the 5.7 Hemi vs the 5.4l Supercharged Lightnihg. I would put money on the lightning, not nearly as bulky, high off the ground, or heavy. Their are considerable differences in the weight, and I don;t like automatics in a sports vehicle, truck or car so I won;t be buying either,

No, I think he's talking about the Dodge with the Viper motor in it. If that is the case, then it would be a close race. If the Dodge could keep traction, it might even win.

The v10 in the Dodge truck is the same motor that is in the VIPER, I recently saw a show on discovery about this, they only made slight modifications for the truck. I think the heads, and intake are the diff. Dont remember for sure.

There is no way that the viper motor could go into a regular production unit. Too much power for dodge to build a sturdy enough transmission for.

I thought the viper pickup was gonna wind up with the 6 speed stick similar to the one in the diesels.

No, it uses the borg warner 6 speed from the viper, only. Also, this truck should be much faster than the lightning, given it has considerably mor Hp and torque, and a very wide power band.

torque wins races. hp sells cars.
He with the best torque curve wins. I drove one of the vipers and it had an admirable powerband. Not real poppy like the little motors. But strong all the way through.

This is true to an extent. However, the roots style blowers used on Lightnings are designed for a fat torque curve. There is no replacement for displacement... except forced induction. Torque should be a pretty good match on both of these motors.

Well, unless ford comes up with something better than their 500HP lightning which is still only a concept, for 04, this dakota based srt will easily beat it with the HP:weight factor. That being both trucks live up to what they are hoped to be. We all know these early designes have been proven to be flops before...take Chevy's POS 454ss.........nuff said. But I think either truck would be more than enough HP for my liking no matter which one wins a drag race.

Anyone want a ride on my new 500HP viper motored Tamahak? lol Those things have so much torque they only use a 2 speed gear box and are believed to top out at around 400mph (still undetermined). I think the problem is they havn't found a driver daring (or stupid) enough to go that fast!! I know I wouldn't, my anemic (in comparison) 800cc Volcan Classic is plenty fast for me.
