Even if it looks good, I'd POR 15 it, or undercoat it with bed liner stuff, or something preventive maintenance-wise to ward off the rust.

Of what I remember seeing of the oil pan, the paint was flaking off on the front part by where it went up to the engine mount/cross bar. Of course it was getting rusty where the paint was gone. It seems a lot like the trailer hitch, it looks great for a while until the paint finish is compromised, and then it quickly becomes a disaster.

I only put about three hours in today, but my grandpa worked on it a little more. It was a beautiful day, so we were able to get the doors opened up and some fresh air flowing through.

First, I worked on getting the main dash panel out. That was quite an ordeal. After that, I decided to use the warm weather to wash the radiators. I got three of the five washed and scrubbed.

My grandpa spent the day cleaning up the engine. He cleaned (and painted some) all of it except for about the front 6" of the engine. Basically, from the fuel filter assembly forward has to be done yet.

Here's a few pics:

Not sure what this is, must be something 4x4 related?

Cool Pics. I like the "spaghetti" of wires in the dash. That would be enough to intimidate me. Grandpa is doing a great job on engine and tranny. Great thread. I look forward to seeing it tomorrow in person!

I took the picture the other day and forgot to pull it from my camera.

Here's a before, to show how badly the stock up-pipes were leaking. The top part of this pipe was wiped with my grandpa's finger already though:

That "mystery" box on the passenger side I THINK is the air bag control module.

Thanks! I'd rep you but it wants me to spread some love around first...

I can't imagine it'd be a different airbag module for a 4x4 vs. 4x2?

All the venting, wiring, heater box, AC box, control box, etc. Are normally assembled in the dash while out of the truck and then installed as a whole. I see you have the bolts out of the side supports and were on the right track for removal then went the hard way.

Boy did grandpa clean that motor up! Looks great!

That's the 4x4 module. The air bag module is on the floor bolted to the top of the trans tunnel.

Thanks guys, I just pulled the black cover off that module today, but I haven't removed it from the truck yet.

Here's an update from today. I didn't get too much done because I got distracted with all the visitors, but it's all good, I didn't mind.

When I first got there, I wanted to focus on getting the rest of the dash parts out while I still had a seat to sit in. I actually didn't sit in it much, because it really took two of us to hold it and get everything disconnected.

My dad didn't come out to work today because he was home trying to get his new Sirius radio receiver to work in his T-bird. He says he had to take out almost every interior trim panel to get the antenna run.

jwronski (John) and Eastland (John) showed up this afternoon to pick up parts they requested. They both spent the afternoon installing their new parts. I'm pleased to report Eastland went home his very short drive with fully functioning foglights and jwronski got to enjoy his longer two hour drive on a working and stiff heated seat.

Here's a few pics from today:

Finally removed the gauges from the gauge pod to remove them. Took some pics so I remember what wires go where when I go to reinstall the gauges:

Here's all the (running) trucks, all Limited V10s too, lined up. My '02, my '05, jwronski's '00, and Eastland's '03:

The front seat frames? No, sorry, they all went home with jwronski today...

After spending all afternoon working on the driver's seat, the '02 and up frames would bolt into a 2000, but the wiring is all different. So he swapped the track assemblies to use the '02 style seat bottoms and backs with the '00 track and electronics.
