12v cummins in a 2000 e350, is it possible?

hello all, hopefully someone in this section can help me out. my dad has a 2000 e350 with the 7.3, well the psd is a goner, she went at just 250k. has 4 inches of water of blow by and runs like total crap (duh). so we got to thinking of putting a 12v in it. ive seen one on you tube but there isnt much info on the swap in the video. has this been done and documented at all? a quick measurement of the engine i have for my hiboy and the space in the van say its gona be really tight if not too tight. i mean its hard to really see with the engine still in the van but these were just rough measurements. length can prolly be accommodated for by moving the trans back a bit but the width of the motor with the turbo hanging off the side is what my major concern.

if any one could possibly shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. IE, links to any builds or info online

thanks, Dave

i actually found that last night as well, looks like it fit pretty well. how ever, that is an older body style van. did much change under the skin between that late 80s model and the 2000 body? i know ford didnt put much money into the econoline so it wouldnt surprise me at all if they were the same under the skin, i just dont know much about the vans.

Well You would need to modify the doghouse and place the engine as low as possible in the frame since the Cummins is quite tall ...the Vans are completely different from 92 and up ...It would be easier to put another 7.3 in the Van in my opinion

I have seen this here where I live. But the guy also made the van 4x4 and he lifted the body off the frame by 4 inches. Back in the day we used to use hockey pucks for the body mounts. Stack them and BAM we have a cheap body lift.

im just thinking you are gong to want to pull body off anyway to do the work then slowly lower back down and if need block it if need. But 7.3 are getting pretty reasonable now to buy out there so why not just put one back. Lot more work trying to fit dodge in there with wiring and all.

Sportmobile did it on one of the E350 Ext vans they converted to 4x4, put the big 6 Cumins turbo diesel in it.

Actually that particular van is not a Sportsmobile-branded conversion--it was done by the outfit known as ExpoVans, Michael Gabriel the mastermind genius behind it all. He has quite a lengthy post on the Sportsmobile forums website---its quite a fascinating project from beginning to end.

Generally Michael's work far exceeds anything with the Sportsmobile name on it.

Here's a link to a forum he pretty much took readers through the entire process from start to finish---it's VERY detailed and not a quick easy read: MG Metalworks E-Series Cummins Diesel Conversion

I've seen several on the 4bt, that used to be a preferred swap in near everything, Pirate had a guy talking about one in his 4x4 Econoline project, I found the expovan one I was talking about the other day and posted it, IDK why I was thinking it was a Sportmobile, maybe because the finish product looked so much like one.

The name Sportsmobile has become so closely associated with all "adventure vans" or mini-RV's with 4x4 conversions they're like Kleenex now!
