I'll never do this again! OT

Making a 14 hundred mile trip in my bug TDI and ran into a heck of a snow storm east of Gallup, nm on I40. Going about 30mph I passed a guy and also had a guy on my rear. So, when I got around him I started to turn over out of the passing lane. Half way over everybody ahead hit their brakes because someone went into the ditch. I made a split second decision to cut back into the passing lane because I felt I still 'owned' it because I wasn't clear of it yet. If I hadn't I would have rear ended the guy in front of me in the right lane. I cut back into the passing lane because there was more room to stop, the ABS were chattering!! The guy behind me layed into his horn big time. When we all came to a stop he slid up next to me and rolled down his window. I thought, oh boy, here we go!! I rolled my window down and he yelled over "its cool man, its cool, you did what you had to do" I said to him that it was either the ditch or rear end that guy. He laughed and so did I. We followed get other for a 100 miles or so. A good ending.

Anyway, this long trip in the winter at the last minute sucks! Next time we ship the presents to the grand kids and take the plane. I won't be around much for the next week or so, hope you guys don't miss me to much, LOL!!

Its only fun driving in the snow when its just you and you are intentionally sliding around.
Happy Holidays!

Thats scary stuff. After having a truck, I just never seem to feel safe in a car in weather like that. I guess I just get used to having several tons of steel around me. Glad everything came out alright.

Enjoy your time with family and have a very Merry Christmas.

My parents are waiting to leave for Oklahoma, I had been watching that storm on radar so they haven't left yet.
Glade you are safe.

Thanks guys, I'm stealing my son-in-laws wireless now before Santa brings in the presents, LOL. I didn't really explain that the guy in front of the guy I was passing had a little dry pavement and he could stop a hell of alot faster then I could. The guy behind me had a land rover so they stop pretty good too. My bug did a good job with the ABS and I'm sure glad I got new tires before the trip.

Helifixer, I also tracked that storm and delayed our trip for two days and finally said the hell with it, I'm going if I want to be there by Christmas eve. That storm just seemed to stay there for days on end. Hope your parents do OK.

Merry Christmas to all!

Edit: Opps, forgot to add the picture for Rob. Just like all bugs, LOL. I was delivering my wife's present.

Thanks Pete.

Mike, it was off the scale, LOL. My wife just thinks of me as her driver, her slave. I still have trouble hearing out of my right ear after that happened. No matter what would have happened it would have been my fault. Even though nothing did happen, it was still my fault. I know all you guys understand what I'm saying! LOL

Rob, Santa just used her ride to deliver the xmas present to her. My watercraft is behind the kayak!
