Newbee here for first time

Okay, not even sure im posting in da right place! Havin a lil trouble !navigating here! I own a 1970 F100 with a 360, four speed manual, no power steering, no a/c, tag on bed says "custom". Its a daily driver, no show truck here! I am definitely havin carb issues. It is a 2 bbl, manual pull choke, its got a C Z and 8 on da numbers. First, Im trying to find out the "correct" carb (local Oreilly's tell me mine is stock for '68 mustang?!) and/or the correct rebuild kit for what ive got. I think its an Autolite 2100, but there are a lot of things missing on mine that i see in pictures of this carb (ala Pony) any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Problems?....surges at idle, definite flat spot in acceleration, hard start when warm. Someting else, if I get down to a quarter tank or less it turns over but no fuel delivery (inline filter between pump and carb dry) I add a couple of gallons and voila! it starts. Any pointers would help, not only w/truck but how/where i should be on this site! Tanx for your time!!

Can you pull the whole number off the carb and google it? Usualy if i just google Casting numbers and things like that there is almost always a webpage explaining what it is-- a majority of them actual old threads off this forum! If your having issues finding them on google and no one here is helpfull try navigating down the page till you see your engine category in the forum; like the FE/FT (352, 360, 390...)

Tanx Logan for your response! I appreciate that! Yes I will get all the numbers that I can, today its above 20 and Ive shoveled enuf snow out of the way! I spent most of my time after posting just searching and reading several threads on here....a LOT of info to be found!! But when it comes to what carb is supposed to be on this truck, it seems rather unclear and some of it down right conflicting. The manual choke, appears to be original stock. i was searching not only the carb info, but also about the fuel pump...to see if the "quarter-tank" scenario was an indication of a weak or failing fuel pump. As to the carb, when i did search with complete numbers, here at home, I had some shops tell me "they made no sense". I learned last nite in my surfing this site, that my stock air filter cannister is missing the original "scoop" or funnel off of the main body, and who knows what else, as to "pre-heater" apparatus! Ive had this truck for over a year now, and its been a great dependable ride! Outside of typical TLC, for a "retired" farmer's truck thrown back into daily use, it has given me no unpleasant surprises. I love it!! Again thank you for your response!

A lil more info....."dial/clock"face on carb says"1.08" numbers on left (driver's)side base has a small "8" and the letters "Z" and "G". I am pretty certain it is a Autolite 2100 and "googling" this info gives me a carb model number of "C8ZF-G", it has, by all appearances, stock manual choke, nor is there any "dashpot" on linkage, just a basic straight rod hook up. I did the "look down da throat" test, and, yes, I do get 2 healthy squirts when i push down da accel linkage. I recently replaced the accel pump with a rebuild kit (not the whole carb) which seemed to give improvement at first, but i still have a significant dead spot with the first quarter of pedal travel, which causes havoc with in-city traffic, 2nd and 3rd gear driving, curious about accel pump linkage choices(what holes?) or any help or suggestions, tanx Logan for responding! Please refer to my first post in this thread as to the "quarter-full" gas tank issue, are these related problems or 2 different fixes!? Anyone? Brewster? Brewster?

D4AZ9A586A (replaced C2AZ9A586D) .. 2100 Series Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2V Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CT499D) / Available from Ford and a gazillion autoparts stores.

Fits all: 1962/74 2100 series Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2V carburetors installed in Passenger Cars/F100/350's/Bronco's and Econolines.

Carb ID number: C8ZF-G = Ford part number: C8ZZ-9510-G .. 2V Auto-Lite 2100 Series Carburetor.

Original applications: 1968 Falcon/Comet/Fairlane/Torino/Montego/Mustang/Cougar 289 w/a C4.

This carb came with an automatic choke (and a dashpot) originally. It has been modified to be used with a manual choke.

C8ZF-G is not a casting number, it's the carb tag ID number. Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers!

Casting numbers are found on engine blocks/heads/intake manifolds, axle housings, trans cases, steering gearbox housings.

Many individual parts have ID engineering numbers marked on them that can be crossed referenced (*) to Ford part numbers. And these are the numbers you are googling to discover what they are.

ID engineering numbers can sometimes be crossed by using the apropos Ford parts catalogs. But if not listed, the Master Cross Reference Catalogs have all these numbers.

Tanx! Mr. Number

Tanx for your input, after cruisin dis site for awhile I was hoping to hear from you! It was one of your comments on a very early posting that caught my attention, that NO 1970 2100 came stock with manual choke. Im sorry if I was misleading..the "C8ZF-G" was, indeed, not a casting number, rather it was the number referenced on several sites when i googled the "8 Z G" that was casted into the left fwd side of the base of my carb. My question to you would be, is this carb appropiate for my 360 (4sp manual tranny)? A gentleman at "Pony" was explaining that a different carb was found on my year/model, a larger one in a "D" series. This is a daily driver, but I just want what is proper to function correctly. As to my symptoms described, any thoughts? Tanx for your time and info.

I also have an autolite c8zf-g on my 78 F150 custom 400cid. I was pretty sure it wasn't original but started checking it out & found this. mine also hesitates & is hard to start when the tank is low or it's warm. anybody know if this carb is not good for this application?
