New 5.0 engine for the new expy's? When?

Ford's been remarkably quiet on that subject.
I think the Ecobost V6 and the 6.2 would be very interesting as well as the 5.0 in the Expys and Navis, but perhaps Ford has rolled out so many new powertrain combinations that they want to catch their breath a bit before going further.
Truthfully though, and I like fast & powerful stuff, the 5.4 6-speed does just fine in our 4wd Navigator L, so from that perspective I can see why it hasn't happened yet.

So I am going to go out on a limb here and give my best guess as to what Ford will offer as engines in the future expys.
Here it goes and remember this is a very small limb and I am a big guy so it may not hold very long. The base engine will be the 3.7l V6 with 285 to 290 HP. I'd like to say here that they won't even offer a V8 and the premium engine would be the ecoboost with similar numbers to the F150, but I have a feeling they will offer both the 5.0 and ecoboost as premium engines.
They may slightly de-tune the ecoboost a little, say to 350hp and 400tq to get a few more mpg's out of it for the expy.
Tow ratings I would guess to say with the 3.7 probably 6000 max and with the 5.0 and ecoboost somewhere around 10k.
Just my $.02 for the new year.

I bought my Expedition to tow my camper. There were no endless decisions on engines, transmissions, or axle ratios for the HD Tow version I had to order. 5.4V8, 6-speeds, 3.73 axles. Gobs of low end torque. Loafs along at 1800rpm at turnpike speeds in 6th gear. This has proven the best towing combination I've yet driven including some pretty rugged pickups. Silky smooth, Town Car ride.
At 75K miles I'm keeping my eyes on the future, but still don't believe gadgets like EcoBoost will offer the reliability I'm looking for. Nor do I see anything gained by losing 400ccs of displacement.

I'm still hoping for the 6.2 personally. The 5.0 is more realistic though. With the Mustang and the F-150 sporting it, Ford can cut costs by running the engine with higher production #'s.
Hopefully Ford throws both as available options. With say only the Limited/KR getting the 6.2 option. kind of how Chevy/GM currently do with the 6.0

IMHO, the 6.2L will be the engine for the Navi and the high end Expy. The 5.0L would be the base engine. I could also see the ecoboost performing some duty in this application but I would never consider the 3.7L V-6 as a candidate. I think the engine would lug down too much and end up burning as much or more fuel than the 5.0L.

My wife and I got rear ended in her cheby crew cab two weeks ago. She has been driving a 2012 Tahoe rental while the truck is being repaired. I just knew she would want to trade her truck in for an tahoe after being in one for a couple weeks, Yesterday she told me..........I think I would like another suv, I miss my old expedition (she had an 2004 expy before the truck) I think I want another Expedition.
This I can deal with, I told her we would have to wait and see if ford will put the ecoboost in them first. Then we will trade my old 2002 single cab chevy work truck in on one and I will use the 2006 crew cab chevy for a work truck. She is happy with that and we both move up.
Any news on how long she will have to wait for the ecoboost?

No solid evidence. The owner of my dealer told me this after he got back from a dealer show.

I really like the username "BigRed460"!
I've got a big red 460... my '78 Marquis and a big blue 460... my '97 F250HD.
I love those old 460s... but the 5.4 in my Navigator makes more HP than either of them. And an Ecoboost would be even higher. Amazing how times change.
Makes you wonder if guys stood around in 1954 criticizing the decision to dump the Flathead and go with the OHV V8 instead?
