Old California Truck Plate?

I found this on a 51/52 in a local wrecking yard (see the VIN thread).

If anyone wants it just let me know and I will find out how much they want for it. I would pick it up and ship it to you at cost via PayPal.

I didn't see one, but if I get back there I could dig around some more.

You can hang it on a wall, lay it on the floor and stomp on it, use it to patch holes in the roof. But, you cannot install CA commercial black plates on anything other than 1963/71 vehicles.

Underneath one a those year stickers (cannot recall which side), the plate is stamped 1963

The commercial plate prior to 1963 covered 1956/62.

There were individual year plates prior years.

And, before you buy a set (CA requires a front and rear plate) of old CA plates, make sure the number is clear. You can do this online at the CA DMV's website.

Some peeps buy old CA plates (some paying big bucks), then discover to their horror they can't use them, because other years, motorcycles and etc could have the same sequence of letters/numbers.

Same jazz applies to non commercial CA plates.

January 1963, I installed 2 black plates (IME 730) on my 1947 Ford woodie. Coupla months later, installed IMH 077 on my 1950 Olds Club Coupe. Coupla months later, JLJ 828 went on my 1955 Packard.

The year tags were about to expire on the 1956/62 plates, and CA had just introduced the new black plates.

California also requires that the YOM (year of manufacture) plates are in good visible condition. They don't allow restored plates, but don't follow that rule to strictly.
