good thing you didn't use that black moly grease to pack the pistons.
would have been evicted from the neighborhood.

did my homemade seafoam a couple months ago with my kerosene/acetone mix.
neighbor across the street had his Lexus and his Mercedes parked out in the cul de sac cleaning his garage when I roared out, mosquito fogging the neighborhood.
came back after blowing her out, he'd moved his shiny toys inside. stared over his white picket fence at me and just glared.
whole block still stunk of raw kerosene stink bomb.

the life of a neighborly mechanic.

so tell us Aero, did that white lithium lube the muffler bearings well?

you may be on to something, the no wear engine. just pull the plugs every 5k miles and use the squirt grease gun to fill the holes up. that white greasy kids stuff comes in gun tubes.

oh, the lithium has gave your CAT and O2 sensor the coat from hell.

van owner "doc, my van is sick"

Doctor Red-Green, "It has lithium poisoning, only thing you can do now is shot it and put it out of its misery"

Hardee.. Har.. Har.... Alice....One of these days.....BAM! To the moon! Good stuff there '96.

Lithium must be a potent brew. Like I said, I did not pack the rings, just swabbed the cylinders lightly with assembly lube and this is the result. Tomorrow, if all goes well, I plan on starting her up again and hopefully get her off the jack stands where she has been since that picture was taken Dec 19. Been swapping transmission cases and waiting on parts since then.

For future reference and to close this thread, the lithium based assembly lube was the culprit in all this. I let it run for approximately 30 minutes the other day and the smoking did cease after the burn off was complete. No hint of it on successive start ups.

Years ago, I worked in a shop that had about 10 employees and a boss that would allow about anything. I could go on for hours about the pranks that got pulled. Yes, I will admit that some good ones were pulled on me. Of course, I will admit that I retaliated too.
Anyway, we were allowed to work on our own vehicles during the lunch hour or after hours. Anyway, a co-worker brought his Chevy V8 truck in to put a new muffler on. He was very surprised that everybody was so eager to help him get it installed. Turns out that he had purchased a new muffler about a month previous, kept it on the back of his pickup in clear sight and he had finally gotten a little time to put it on. What he didn't know was that a co-worker had put almost a full cartridge of cheap grease inside of the muffler, (put it inside the muffler with a 90° grease gun tip so that the grease wasn't visible) told the other co-workers and everybody was just waiting for the moment that it got put on. (BTW, everybody knew to use a CHEAP grease because it burned up quicker.....) The guy lived about 6 miles from work and everybody just somehow followed him home that day, about a mile back of course, because the smoke was really thick. The guy was hot, but he pulled jokes like everybody else. FTR, I don't condone pranks like this....for the record...

I bet after the lithium greased muffler bearing episode in Aero's neighborhood, his calls from the neighbors for him to do free auto mechanic work has dropped drastically.
Every foul up has a golden lining.

I'm just glad Aero is with us again for another 300k mi. and his new engine.

I just piled up a bunch of dead leaves by the garage door and stood there with a rake....American Gothic style, smiling, as the neighbors passed by wondering what was going on. Kept my mechanical prowess intact that way. Now, if I could only figure out what is wrong with my transmission. I installed one of those shift kits while the engine was down and now I can't get out of first gear!!!!!!.......some great mechanic.

this engine rebuild stuff is over my head but it sounds like you got it under control. these fourms have been a great help, i started a thread about my trans. hesitating at initial start up. i think i've recieved enough info. to dive in try to fix it. i've got a 92 eddie bauer with 121000 miles on it and it's a beauty inside and out. good luck with your aero and its rebuild.
