swapping a 1993 351 into a 1990 f150
Hey y'all I'm trying to clean up my yard and finish building a few of my trucks. One of my trucks is a 1990 f150 4x4 that I rebuilt from nearly scratch minus the motor and tranny when I was 16, I gave the truck to my mom a few years ago and the motor started puking oil out of the exhaust and dipstick so she parked it beside my other trucks. So I decided to do a swap. I had ripped apart and scrapped a 1993 2wd f150 a lil while ago that had a rebuilt 351 so I figured I'd throw that in there but the motor and tranny in the 90 were also pooched. I have a 1988 f150 4x4 in the back that someone swapped in a 94 351 that blew up w/ a c6. I stole the c6 and transfer case. I have all these apart and sitting in my buddies shop and trying to put this together for my mom for christmas. But I have run into a few issues. Before the truck was parked it just got a brand new true dual exhaust system that cost an arm and a leg and the exhaust manifolds are different between the 302 and 351 due to the egr pipe fitted into the back of the 351 manifold I cannot swap out the proper manifolds. Any suggestions? And if I steal the distributor and wiring from my other modified swap will this all go together hunky doory? Thanks for all your help!

The EGR system on the 351 is on the front right side of the engine, connects to the front top of the right exhaust manifold up to the upper intake.
The tubes connected to the manifolds just before the flange for the Y pipe on the back of the motor are for the Air system.
Depending on where you live (sounds like that's a non issue) you could just eliminate them plugging those holes. They offer a plug made to do just that, replacement manifolds include the plug. (Fairly sure I can post a picture if you like see what one looks like)
You'd have to rework the connection of the pipes some as the 5.8L is wider over all then the 5.0L but shouldn't prove to be a big problem as I believe they dump same position same angle on both engines just little further appart.

You don't need to(or want to for simplicity) change any wiring in the '90, it will all connect to the 5.8 no problem and then all you have to do is plug in the 5.8 computer. If the good 5.8 uses a remote TFI module it's better to modify the existing distributor to accept the module directly(not hard to do) or go find an older 5.8 distributor then it is to modify the wiring to utilize the remote TFI.

If the truck getting the 5.8 has an E4OD trans then yes that's the computer you want to use, otherwise you want a computer for a 5.8/C6 or 5.8/manual combo because the E4OD computer will throw fits and mountains of codes if it doesn't find that electronic transmission.
You could use the 5.0 manifolds on the 5.8, just put a blockoff plate between the EGR valve and intake but it keep it connected normally(vacuum and electrical) and you'll get no codes or have any engine driveability problems.

Ok well sweet thanks what I'm attempting to obtain is a 1993 351 with a c6 into a 1990 f150 4x4 I am willing to disconnect all smog and egr controls long as it does not affect the driveability. The truck isn't going to drive millions of miles it is just a farm truck that goes to town and pulls down trees not a drag racing truck.the other thing is the c6 with transfer case is an inch shorter then the original aod and transfer case will that case any trouble for me?

I want to swap a 92 351w/E4OD 2wd combo I took out of my 92 E 350 Bus/van, into my 90 F 150 2wd. The issues I'm having, is the wiring, mainly. The 92 has all the same sensors,( minus that knock sensor at the rear middle of the block, that Ford didn't even recognize, lol), BUT, it has the large SQUARE plugin, that runs through the firewall, and apparently runs a remote TFI module, and my 302 doesn't. can I just swap distributors and wiring harness off my 90 302, and buy and install the computer I need for that 351? (My buddy that yanked my parts out of my bus while I was in the hospital sent me the rear ABS controller, thinking it was the engine EEC, lol) Basically, I need someone to spell it all out for me, as I am handicapped, and REALLY need this done! P.S. the 302 is junk, not even rebuildable, hence the swap, I had this 351 and tranny available, so that's my current choice. Thanks for any, and all help, and God Bless, ~Donny

Your '90 was originally equipped with a 5.0/AOD combo? If so this is a pretty big job in terms of wiring because you need the complete chassis harness from an E4OD donor truck or you got to sit down with wiring diagrams, figure out exactly what's needed and what's not, and then install/splice/fabricate whatever is necessary to make it work.
The easier solution here is to use the AOD if it's still good, buy a 28oz AOD flexplate and bolt the motor in there, connect the stock 5.0 engine harness to the motor, convert the remote TFI 5.8 distributor to use the onboard TFI(not that hard) or buy an early 5.8 distributor, and also obtain a 5.8 PCM for a manual or C6 auto truck and plug that in to the 5.0 harness.
