Ecoboost Fuel Tank change

Hello,

I have read quite a few messages regarding the 36 gallon fuel tank in the 2012 Ecoboost vs a 26 gallon in the 2011 models, but haven't seen that anyone has done the conversion. I have a 2011 FX4 and would like to convert to a 36 gallon tank. Has anyone done the swap? If so, does anything else need to be replaced other than the tank? Thanks

Yeah, I have seen at least a couple reports of the swap.
If I remember correctly, the gauges were confused, and the guys were not able to fix this. Basically, with a half full tank, it showed full, or something like that. All mpg readings were bogus as well if I remember correctly.
All in all, it appears to not be a very easy replacement. Well, the tank replacement may be easy, but not the computer calibration.

Do a search. It's been done. The actual swap of tanks is easy. It's just the computer can not be programed for the bigger tank. Just one of the threads.

Yeah, for me, not being able to get the gauges and mpg readings adjusted would be a show stopper. But others may not care as much .... I mean - the gallons will be there, no matter what the computer thinks.

I agree, I don't care in the computer doesn't register the gallons correctly, as long as the gauge is correct. Do you know if anything other than the tank needs replaced. I had heard that the heat shield and sending units may need to be replaced. I am going go to the Ford parts department this week and match all part numbers.

I'd be a little surprised if the dealer doesn't have the ability to change the programming on the fuel gauge and miles to empty read out with a tank swap.

This guy had it done by the dealer and the programming could not be changed.

Maybe he will update the status soon.
