Happy 15 yo (now 16) son's 94 restoration w/PICS

Today the Mrs and I went and looked at and purchased a 1995 F150 XLT 4x4 short box with the 4.9L six and 5 speed, 123,xxx miles, 3.08 gears.

It is for my very hard working 15 year old who is well behaved and gets good grades. He helps us out around the house and and doesn't complain. I wish I could have afforded more but I think he will be over joyed.

It is a little rough here and there and will need some TLC over the next few months until he can drive it. It has some bondo and has been patched up some in the usual places but from 10 feet its looks pretty nice. It has some fraily serious chassis rust that we will be addressing for structural integrity. Nothing we can't fix. What it needs in the near term for sure

fix the master cylinder leak and bleed in new fluid
all four shocks, thinking the upper rear mounts may break right off.
new front coils
Minor exhaust leak sounds like its near the manifold
the belt squeaks pretty bad
a new rear bumper
the radio volume does not work
the cruise control does not work

Here are a couple pics, will post more of the issues it has as we get to them.

I think it's AWESOME you're introducing him to Ford, and the lil 300 at that...

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!

Yea you're a good mom and dad there for sure.

Had I been given something like that when I was his age I'd been so happy wouldn't sleep for at least a week. Be outside with every moment I could, going over everything on it until plain just passed out in my tracks!

Nice looking truck. It should serve him well for many years. My first car (in 86 or so) was a 78 datsun b210gx. it ran on anywhere from 2 to all 4 cylinders depending on its mood, and had rust holes in the floor that you could lose things through (rocker shaft assy from a ford 390 disapeared from the trunk). If I held the gas to the floor and waited 5 seconds or so for the rpms to get up then dumped the clutch, (trying to do a burnout)... it would stall. I was absolutely thrilled to drive it... I think your son will be fine with it!

Wow! Sweet truck, your son is most fortunate to have folks like you.My first vehicle was a beatup 67 galaxy. I'm sure the two of you will get some good quality time together and it will give him the chance to become one with the truck.

That's one lucky kid! Ha my parents made me take out a loan. Still paying it down, bout over a grand left on it. But I think it was best this way, as a soon to be eighteen year old I respect and treat my truck nice. Because I'm paying for it, the maintnance, the gas, and anything I break. Unlike the rest of my senior class.

We celebrated Christmas today with my Mom's side of the family so he got the truck this afternoon. He is floating on a cloud and really had no idea. He paid for $600, his grandparents chipped in and we paid the rest.

My first truck was 1979 f150 4x4 300 CI 4 speed which I loved very much. So I am about as happy as he is to get another 300. He can't legally drive it alone until March 3rd, the day he takes his test so we will have it up on jack stand by the end of the week to start checking everything over and get to know the truck.

I bought him the chilton repair manuel at O'reilly auto and wrapped that for him to open. He wondered what he would need that for. LOL

Here is the happy camper
