Wondering if anyone has tryed to swap a 7.3 liter into a 2008 F 550? The reason I ask is because I really dont care for the 6.0 diesel. Haven't ran acrossed one that didn't require close to 5 g's in mods to perform good. Anyway I can get a 08 F 550 cheap enough without motor and tranny so here I am contemplating getting this truck and putting a 7.3 in it.. I am hoping its as easy as swapping engine mounts and re wiring the cab with an older wire harness from like a 99-03 7.3 liter truck.. Hopefully I am posing this question in the right place and thanks ahead of time for everyones help..
I think you will find it is much more difficult than that. If you had a full donor truck it would be helpful. Also most of the instruments will most likely not work so you would need to think about that. Having the PCM and all of the modules that go along with it are also required. Now it is not impossible, but you may find it challenging to say the least.
I dont have emissions here in Washington state. And wiring doesn't scare me one bit. Lost count how many wire harnesses I have had to take apart and redo after buying a rig from a crack head.. Seemed like good deals then until I had to rewire the rigs.. hahahaha Tweakers suck..
You know, there are a lot of 6.0L engines in junk yards. Pick a good one up, do head studs, egr delete, oil cooler upgrade and it is pretty bullet proof. Being its out of the truck it easy. Would make your truck worth more money and chiped they aren't bad at all. I only say this because it will save you a lot of head aches and the truck will be easier to resell when the time comes.
Go with a 5.9 I6 in there destroked makes all the needed items for conversions for 6.4s now. I feel like fuel mileage and torque will be a lot better with the cummins, Im a power stroke guy but you have to respect the 5.9.
I thought most states or federal regulations prevents from putting older non emissions engines in newer style vehicles regardless if the state has no emissions testing. I think its ok to do the opposite newer eng in an older vehicle
