I dont think 95 used vaccum hubs. If they are the older style auto hubs, in 2wd you should be able to rotate the front driveshaft. within a revolution or three in the same direction, the hubs should lock and you wont be able to turn the shaft any more in that direction. A short drive should unlock the hubs. When the transfer case is in 4x4 you wont be able to rotate the shaft if the transfer case is locked in.

The manual has the procedure for maintaining the auto hubs. If You keep them clean and propery lubricated they work fine.
In 250K miles on mine, I've found that if I clean/lube them once every year or two, they always work fine. Another thing I've found is that if the retaining bolts, or hub seals are bad, the hubs dont work long. And will require disassembly to get the moisture/dirt out. If they get wet inside, they will freeze, too.
The retaining bolts should have small o-rings on the heads.

Yeah, keepin' them clean works wonders.I can tell when mine are gettin' dirty cause they clunk pretty loud when they engage. Once I clean 'em up I don't hardly hear them.I got new seals at napa I think for bout 7 or 8 bucks.
