I believe all manufactorers have their problems. There are 3 of us that work together. We all owned a 96 Chevy 1500 pickup. My 2 buddies had their Rear Intake Manifold Gasket go out at 60,000 miles. This is an expensive fix, around 350-400 dollars. I thought it was funny it went out on both their trucks at 60,000 miles. Well, when my truck turned 62,000 miles guess what went out. I also had to get it replaced, did Chevy do a recall on this or offer to help replace it for the cost of the gasket ($60, most of the cost was labor as this is about a 6 hour job according to 3 different mechanics). No, Chevy wasn't concerned at all. Now one of my buddies is driving an F-150, I'll be driving an F-250 this summer, and my other buddy is currently looking at other trucks. But in all honesty, I suspect we will all have problems with our new trucks, you get a warranty for 3/36000 and after that things are going to break, it's just the way it is with every truck manufactorer. Just thought it was very ironic we all had the same piece go out on our trucks right around 60,000.

great discussion but i did not sense ford owners holding back from their problems. i really appreciate everyones 2bits since i was thinking about buying a newer ford f150 but i believe i will stay with my beloved 90 fi50 supercab 4x4 with 185k miles which has never failed to be reliable and sturdy, even though it gets 11 mpg at all times. thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and knowledge!!!!

more just in general..

i know that of all the trucks we have owned the Ford's were always the least worked on, the chevy's really didnt perform until you messed with the engine (dad was a mechanic, now he works for ford) then they would go after a few thousand miles

if i go specific i think the easiest comparison would be the chevy z71 to the ford f150

what do u think?

I think this much information coming from the author, along with the author's name, pretty much rules out any fair chance GM might have of scoring some points in this paper, much less winning the comparision in it. This basically comes down to GM on trial with Ford as witness, jury, judge, and executioner.

All I have to say is this- you guys who are always complaining about GM interiors can't possibly be taken seriously - not by me anyway. Sure you can prefer one design over another, but as far as which holds up better- theyre the same- and for all I know GM may be better- I don't own one, my F150 has had plenty of things go wrong inside- from panels and fabric, to electronics and mechanics- too many to bother listing, and I wouldint want to bore you with them anyway- all in all my truck is a good truck- but you mean to say it's the ONLY one that's ever had these annoyances?....please. You sure you guys own Fords?

Ford trucks have a reputation that is hard to match. Sales numbers prove that. If you look at the Model A trucks up to present day Ford has sold millions more than the nearest brand which is G.M. Look at the advertising dollars spent by the big
3 to promote their trucks. G.M. wins this battle hands down. Dodge second and Ford third. Yet Ford still sells 850'000 a
year which they have done for years. Isn't this amazing. The competition has never been more intense for Ford than it has been the last few years. With Chevy and Dodge on their heels as well as toyota and nissan in the mix it can't get any tougher than that. Chevy and Dodge have to push hard to sell their trucks trying to run Fords down at every opportunity. The Ford name and
reputation take care of that. Die hard Ford guys arn't listening
they are still buying Ford trucks. As a competitors ad states Do
you have the right truck. I say if it's a Ford it's the right truck. I have had Ford trucks my whole life they have never let me down.Fordforever.
