85 f250 lift
ok i just recently bought a 85 f250 4x4 with a 351. ive been looking at lifts and i found a rough country 4 inch suspension lift and also a tuff country 2.5 inch lift kit. im just lookin to clear 33 inch tires. im just lookin to get some opinions on either of them because id perfer to do just the 2.5 to give me the little bit of height n clear the tires n give the truck a real mean stance. so feel free to voice your opinions if you have had either of those lifts. ride wise? any drop brackets or anything needed if i was to go with the 4 inch? thanks

Drop brackets are needed for the 4 inch lift. I would imagine the 2.5 inch lift will be borderline being able to get it aligned without brackets. That's why the earlier Ford lifts are more expensive than the others, it's the brackets and drop pitman arm that is needed that drives the price up.

You don't need a 4in lift to clear 33s. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...uestion-2.html
Page two is where you should look.

I will repeat; You may not be able to get it aligned with a 2.5 inch lift. If they can even get it in, you will have to buy the special bushings for the upper balljoints for the alignment. Expect to pay at least $150 for the alignment, and after all that they might come out and tell you they can't get it in.

If you only want 33" tires don't b other with a lift. I've run 33" tires on stock height F-150 and F-250 without issues. On F-150 33"x12.5" will rub the radius arms at full lock on factory wheels. Not a big deal, they barely touch. On F-250 you won't have that problem but as you get toward 15" wide tires you'll run the leaf springs at full lock, again not a big deal.
So I say just get your 33" tires and leave it stock height. Reason being, there's no sense putting any money into a D50 front. A D50 lift involves drop brackets and possibly the alignment parts. If you want to do a lift buy a D60 and do a 4" or greater lift, run 35" or greater tires. I have a F-250 lifted 4" on 35"x12.5" tires and used to have 38.5"x15" tires which barely rubbed the leaves at full lock and at full tuck in the rear they'd barely touch the rear wheel well. This is with a shackle flip and shims in the rear. Just to give you an idea of what fits a 4" lift... 35" is nowhere near touching though and 33" tires look silly on a 4" lift. Lift money would be better spent on a rear locker if all you want is 33" tires.
