Bill - Thanks for the pix. They'll help when the time comes.
Trav/Matt/Jim - Sounds like my 36 is a good starting point. If the load appears to be more than I think or if the tires seem the least bit soft after it is loaded I'll probably up the rears to 40.
We aren't too worried about the ride for us, but we'll have a hutch with glass in the doors laying on its back and want to cushion things for it. We are going to wad up newspaper and put it in the hutch and close the doors to cushion the glass, but still don't want hard shocks. So I'm wanting to have enough air in the tires to carry the load w/o building up heat in the tires, but low enough to keep the bumps from delivering much of a shock. I think I'll be fine somewhere between 36 and 40.

Looking at the map, you are sorta in the middle of nowhere. (I'll bet that's news to you. ) We haven't decided how we'll come home, but will be going on I40 & I81 so won't be close to you. However, there's a chance we'll come the southern route, meaning I64, and if so will let you know. What's the best way - PM?

Im not too far from Pikeville, ky and morehead, ky....approx. 50 miles from each
And I64 comes straight through Morehead, and theres another FTE member that lives there.

Ray - We'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
As for what I've done this morning, I installed a cowl/hood seal. And, I used the garage door bottom seal as many have done. It works very well, as shown in the shots below:
I'm not sure what weather we are going to see on this trip, but I don't like the idea of water puddling on the air cleaner and running into the carb and engine. Nor of it puddling on the intake manifold after I media-blasted the stains left from the PO's not having a seal there. Yes, it is powder-coated, but I still don't like the idea.

- The package, so's you can get the same stuff if you want to do so
- A shot of how it is installed, with this shot being on the driver's side. I used Ford screws and some black RTV on the back side to ensure it seals. As you can see, I installed it with the long lip up and the bottom lip down against the lip of the cowl.
- Here's a blurry shot of the driver's side end of it through the crack between the hood and the cowl with the hood closed
- This is on the driver's side with the hood partially closed showing how the lip is going to contact the hood
- This in on the passenger's side (to get the lens of the camera close to the cowl) with the hood closed showing how it fits then. Note that the dark band at the bottom of the seal is a shadow cast by the little lip on the bottom obstructing the light of the flash.

Good thought. Page 15 of the latest catalog shows one for 80-86 and another from 87-96. However, I'd bet that the garage door seal will work for both, although I have no way of checking the later trucks.
