I waiting on the new blue spring kit to arrive for fuel pressure regulator. I hear its easy but can anyone direct me to pictures or write-up. Thanks much
Being an extreme noob here and with 6.0's myself, I can only repeat what I ve found out here.It is a preventative measure. Lower fuel pressure will eventually take out the injectors...not a fun or economical repair, I m speculating.
It fuel pressure is too low, the blue spring can help some running issues like cold starts and low power at higher RPM, but the biggest benefit is increased injector life. If I understand correctly the fuel (under proper pressure) helps dampen the pintles momentum at the end of their stroke and keeps them from hitting the inside of the injector body. It doesn't add any power but it can restore power if the pressure was low to start with.
Mine with 17K on it had a fuel pressure of 44lbs at WOT and 50lbs at idle and in time it will only go down now 58lbs at WOT and 62-64lbs at idle 70-75lbs is the max on fuel pressure or you could blow injector o-rings, now mine pulls a 14000lbs 5er and 25-30% of the time it is at WOT so at 44lbs i would be killing my injectors and without a fuel pressure gauge everything would be just fine, but you need to proactive with the health of your truck and the only way is with gauges, the 6.0 needs all the gauges you can put on it, will cost less in the long run. The Edge Insight CTS or ScanGaugeII plus a good fuel pressure gauge will tell you the health condition of your motor $$$$ well spent.

Be very careful with the 4 bolts holding on the housing, they can snap off easily. I broke one off taking the old one off and it was not fun trying to get the old bolt out. Also don't over tighten same thing can happen.
