Thats good progress. And much quicker than i can move.
I got my 24 valve cummins back together a few weeks ago.
Back in the truck but need to finish hooking everything up still. (never enough time in a day)
Youll be cruising again before snow flies...

Man I love a seven main bearing engine. Like you, I also enjoy engine work, but it's been a while since I sent stuff out to a machine shop. So much less stressful than how your dad did it. Keep up the great work Scott.

Hey Scott,
The shakedown phase can be pretty frustrating. Our engine chewed up the pushrods at under 1,000 miles -
the builder didn't use case hardened rods grrr.. I feel your pain - hang in there.

We sprayed our cab interior with a bedliner type product called Toff. It's a nice low maintenance solution -
we used it everywhere except the dash. Pick up a couple of rubber floor mats & you are good to go. Does it get warm
in the cab? We open up the cowl & the windows - not too bad - but it's always hot here in Texas.

Good luck over there - keep up the momentum!

It sounds like you made the right call choosing to go for the rebuild. Im glad the source of the knock is solved, and you will now have the reliable truck you had envisioned.

I hate it when previous owners or rebuilders screw up a engine!

I'm glad to hear you are getting it sorted out.

What all did you do to the head as far as port work goes? Any pictures?

Did you re-use the stock cam or go with something aftermarket?

Ted. sorry but I didn't take any pics of the head work. Basically bowl cleanup and some work around the guide bosses and polished up the exhaust ports. I also cleaned up the combustion chambers a bit.
The cam is an old NOS sealed power unit.....I think 204/214 duration 450/475 lift.

I got the engine all assembled and today got it put back into the truck. It was a tight fit, had to leave the manifolds and one motor mount off to get it in.
Will work on getting everything hooked up and hopefully fired up this week....

I hooked up the radiator temporary and fired it up the other day. The engine runs nice and no noises. I had a minor oil leak(side cover) so I figured I better fix that before going any farther. Then I sprained my ankle, so not much else got done.....................
Will get the fenders etc back on in the next few days.
Sorry, no pics.

Sorry to here about your ankle, hope it heals fast.
Are you using the Ford power steering pump? If so how does that work with the GM steering box? Good luck with the rebuild.

It is a GM pump, but an older one. It seems to work fine. I had to modify the Ford pump bracket to make it fit.

Good progress Scott

Haven't peeked in in a while. lots of progress and the truck is lookin awesome.
Tastefully done.
I've been busy firing up my 59 Beetle after motor rebuild. Hope to go for a spin before snow comes.
Been driving my F1. hauled leaves and branches to recyle today. then went for a two hour cruise.
Keep at it, hope to cruise down your way next summer.

Tom
