Tinman's '51 Cabover lowbuck build
#393
Started working on the engine cover.....
I wanted it to kind of fit in with the rest of the build, and a big box under the dash just wouldn't do.
So I grabbed an old junk set of fenders and started cutting!" title="Evil Grin" class="inlineimg" border="0">
These were some old junk F3 fenders....no good parts were ruined.
I like the rounded look...now I need to figure out how to mount and seal up everything. I need to keep this as 2 pieces also, so i can remove it with the seats in place. Long way to go yet....

You could do what the racers and aircraft manufacturers do when they want to make a panel easily removable yet secure: use Dzus fasteners (1/4 turn fasteners) they come in a number of variations, surface mount, flush (countersunk) mount, pop out, captured, etc. Open or close with a dime. Easily installed and inexpensive. Available from Summit, Jegs, Aircraft Spruce and Specialties, ebay etc.

My challenge right now is making the pieces fit the opening and each other...I am going to fit and attach one side then match the other to it. Hopefully.

Wow Scott your junk looks better than my good stuff! How about cutting the fender just past the wheel opening straight across and turn the cut to the floor. weld the seam together at the top then have the piece closest to the seats your 2nd piece that runs over a lip off the first.
I almost followed that. Can ya do us up a sketch or
drawing or something? What I visualize from your post
may work. But may be nothing like what you see.
