I also have this problem, but think its beyond wd-40 fix. I've soaked latches with every type of penatrant oil and spray lube we have in our shop and at my garage and have had no results. I've noticed the dome light only comes on when driver's door is opened but none of others. If I open any other door the light doesn't come on unless I press the door unlock switch. Door ajar light remains on while driving, dome light doesn't shut off until speed exceeds 5mph in forward gear ( kinda makes reverse in the dark a bitch) and dome light stays on for 15-20 minutes after I exit the truck. I think is time to look at other solutions.

I had this problem on a 2002 Explorer except it was more than just the dome light, the alarm would go off in the middle of the night for no reason!
Anyhow, it was beyond the WD-40 fix so I swapped it out. The part was only around $20 but I had to remove the door panel and door latch to get to the underside of it where the switch was. With the latch out it was easy to replace -- disconnect the wiring and a simple 1/4 turn twist to remove the switch.

Do you know how many wires go into the switch?
When this problem happens to mine, I plan on installing regular switches from a wreck (other than Ford) & rewire it so it never sticks again. I got switches from an old Toyota, and all they have is one wire going to the switch. Must be just the ground.

There are two wires to the door switches, but one of them is just a ground wire. The grounds probably go back through the door conduit to a frame ground somewhere inside the truck. Using the door itself as a ground path wouldn't work very well, because of the plastic bushings in the door hinges.
If you wanted to use single wire pressure switches, you probably could. You would just need to run a ground wire from the door framework through the conduit to a good cab frame ground.
See the attached door switch diagram.

the door unlock switch turning on the light with the pass door, im sure turns on the light because it is in the "timered off" position from the last time you left the truck, and it has been more than 15-20 minutes. you kind-of wake it up.
i would bet you dont have a wireing problem, but just unlucky enough to have two door switches go out... one sticking open, and one just broken,
I may be wrong, hope this helps, Mark
