need help identifying ford engine 460/5.4

I have a 1985 work van (Club wagon)my dad told me he heard it had a 460 in it but its only E 150 unless they did a motor swap i could'nt see it having the 460 because its still has the 5.4 carb cleaner on top unless they just swapped that out as well. How can I indentify weather or not its a 460 or its the 5.4 stock engine? SI there andway i could tell from underneth or anything ive seen the 460 in a van like mine and the engine do look the same, i could be wrong thanks for all your help guys 1

Welcome to FTE

460 (7.5L) = 7 valve cover bolt holes per side. 460's not installed in E150's after 1979.

302 (5.0L) & 351W (5.8L) = 6 valve cover bolt holes per side. It's more than likely one of these.

5.4L modular engine not installed in Econolines until the late 1990's.

The 8th digit of the VIN is the engine code, post what it is.

Dunno what VIN chart you're looking in. H = 1985/89 = 351W 4V / Source: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

Which coincidentally would coincide with the 5.8L sticker on the air cleaner.

Thus it is most likely a 351 and NOT a 460 since it also has the 6 bolt valve covers.

Which coincidentally, the OP didn't say in post #1
As you can see.

Never seen 3 on an EFI 460, mine has 4, but with everything installed 1 on each side is hidden under a bracket.
