Just a few days ago I replaced my fuel pump. Everything works perfectly fine accept I can fill my tank. Ill pullup to the pump put the nozzel in lock the handle in place itll pump for about a gallon or so the shut off. Reengage the handle, lock it, and again pumps about a gallon and shuts off. Ive tried three different pumps at 3 different gas stations same thing at each one. Anyone got any ideas what it could be.

 

not to insult your intelligence but did you pull the nozzle out some and try again. when i go fill up and i put the nozzle in all the way it does the same thing.

 

At very few stations can I lock the nozzle wide open when I full my vehicle.

That being said, my son's SVT would actually take 12 minutes to put 10 gallons in it. We found out that it had a check ball in the bottom of the filler pipe (to keep the fuel from gushing out in case of a roll over). When they started putting ethanol in the fuel, Ford said some of the check ***** would swell up due to the ethanol and slow the fuel stream entering the tank, kicking off the nozzel. Don't know if your 1998 Expy has that feature.

 

The return vent pipe is most likely clogged with debris and needs to be cleaned out.
