292 Question

You may have what is called the Y block series engine, Ford's first OHV series V8. It could be as small as the 239 CID and large as the 312 if it is the light truck or car series engine. I guess PTO may have been produced on a three speed, I've never seen it but if it has PTO it is probably a four speed. The Y block was introduced in 1954 so it is not original in the '48. And the engine could be the big truck engine which was Lincoln based 302 or 332 but still not stock. A bit more information to id. Not hard to R&R a headgasket. Finding one for the Lincoln engine may be interesting.
