Pulling 292 from 64

Quick question on engine pull. Do I separate the transmission from the bell housing or the bell housing from the engine when I pull it out? I am replacing the pistons, cam, lifters, etc. but keeping the same crankshaft.

if you leave it together it's easier to
separate out of the vehicle
trick is can you drop trans crossmember
or remove radiator and support to get it out

Kinda an old post but I will do this quick.

No crosmember. Tranny is the rear motor mount. You have two bolts there and one in the front. Pull the radiator, the fan, the wiring, the shift cane, the U joint on the tranny, and those three bolts and with a little finesse and finagling the whole shebang should come up and out. Or you can slide it slightly back and down and jack your truck over it.
Also please disconect and plug your fuel line.
