I whole heartily agree to that! That thing is a **** poor design start to finish and never should have been implemented on em. Make changing a tire on side of the road a bigger pain then should be to start with.

The cable wench type, yea now that's something worthy hang a wheel on don't mind using one at all.

The new wheels and tires look great!

I agree about the spare tire carrier being a PITA sometimes, but it works alright. I like that you can put a pad lock on it.

I'll echo many of the sentiments above. I recently installed a spare tire carrier setup (including all hardware) from a 1992 or 1993 truck under my 1990 and found that the front bolt wasn't long enough and I had to go to the hardware store to get a longer one (couldn't use the factory nut clip then since it is metric and my local hardware store doesn't carry metric bolts that long). And I have the stock 235/85 tire size.

I know this doesn't help, but my 95 is so "old" now that no one seems to care about it - except me! I just throw the spare tire in the back. It is rare that I have the truck so full of stuff that there's no room for the spare.

Also, as a further criticism of the tire under the rear tank design, I watched a fellow punch a hole in his spare when loading wood in an inimproved area. The truck rolled over a large branch and it popped. Rare, I know, but something to consider.

I think there's a lot to be said for the simple bracket that lets you bolt it upright to the inside of the bed.
