Dana rear end swap question

I have a 92 f-150 recently the 8.8 went out on me. I was waiting on this becasue i have a locked straight axle i am putting up front and a dana 70 rear. I noticed that the dana 70 does not have the electrical plug on the top of it like the 8.8. Does that measure wheel speed for the speedometer or is it for abs?

Dana rear end swap question

I have had mine unplugged for about two years, and my speedometer works fine.
I am in the process of changing my 7.5 open for an 8.8 LS. I just discoverd the flang on the 7.5 is smaller than the one on the 8.8.

How can you have yours unplugged and the speedo still work? I thought that is the only way it gets a signal to register speed on the speedometer?

Dana rear end swap question

I realized last night that you guys are referring to f150s. I have a ranger with rear end problems. I replaced my rear end a few years ago with one that came out of an older truck. It did not have the plug which is for the ABS, so I let it hang ever since.
I just got an 8.8 rear end out of the same year truck which has the plug, but also a larger flange, which is a whole other can of worms that I was not looking foward to.
Sorry for the confusion

Dana rear end swap question

the connector on the axle is for ABS.
The speed sensor is in the tranny or x-case (depending on 4x4 or 2x4).. atleast on the older models when they started going electrical.. might always be on the tranny now.
But I do know, the axle connector is for ABS only.
