Block heater cord

After replacing the GPR , CS, disconnecting the FBH and replacing #22 fuse The truck is running once again. Yesterday I checked the cord to the BH to see if it was bad DIY Mechanic gave me a few suggestions to check it with an ohm meter. I checked the plug carefully and saw that there was a burnt wire. I went to the local hardware store and bought some 14-3 cable. I cut and soldered the new wire to the existing cord along with a new plug and now it works great. I also red on the web where people cut the pigtail and use a 2 prong extension. That can be a dangerous situation. If you examine the part of the cord that goes into the block there is a small brass strip. This should be a ground. If you cut that pigtail and your there is a short you may be for a surprise - a truly shocking experience.

Good job, glad you got it working. I usually plug mine in when it gets 32* or below. Truck starts fine if I forget, it just run better from start and warms up a bit quicker. Check out some timers if you have not already done so. I leave for work at 6 AM so I set my timer to come on at 3 AM, 3 hours total. Tried less time and tried more time but for me 3 hours seems to be the magic number.

Photographs of cord repair

I have replaced the engine block heater cord on my 1996 Ford F-250 PSD. Here are the photos that go along with what I have done.

I may post additional information on this project at a later date.

Furniture Doctors truck

When I bought the truck 4 years ago it had a 5th wheel and electric brakes for a trailer.

Here is what the truck looks like. The engine block heater is plugged in as you can see in this picture.

I'm looking to do the same thing on my truck, but will likely relocate the block heater plug to the bumper using the Marinco plug at the same time.
