Power Steering issue, watch out

drove the dually the last couple weeks, planning to pick up some furniture, and heard a whine.. very similar to power steering pump whine from of old..

took it in for service, oil change, inspection.. look at this..

ouch..

pressure hose leaking from the inside, pump contaminated, hydroboost contaminated..

oh mutt fun... external extended warranty covering everything but the pressure hose..(guess it doesn't cover hoses of any kind).. $450 including labor.. for the pressure hose..
also discovered a trans pan gasket leak, and a belt idler pulley bearing failing..

warranty covering those too.. just not a hose..
total insurance coverage is $1900.

My power steering box decided to drop a trail of PS fluid on the driveway one day as I was backing out. Took it in and they said there was some bearing leak on the intermediate shaft (or whatever it was). The tech's first inclination was to swap out the whole steering box, but Corporate told him to rebuild it since it was on their dime. Fortunately I still have my bumper-to-bumper, but it's running out pretty soon.

We all who have purchased ext/warranties .....have done well .....when issues like this come-up....I once owned a 08 F250 SD 6.4L .....had ext/warranties and they save me monies on repairs. I now own a 11 F250 6.7L and have 125K mile bumper to bumper and the 200K mile diesel motor warranty....I'am just watching out for myself.

well, got the truck back Friday night at closing.. drove it home..

today was christmas tree shopping.. we always get a big tree..

well, on the way we're smelling tranny fluid.. yep.. leaking like a sieve..!!

ford service was closed but they got a wrecker and took it back to the dealer..
and they took us home..

never a dull moment..

sold a take front bumper around dinner time, met near the mall..
stopped to look at trees and wow. they deliver!.. so a tree will be here soon..
and I'll kick Ford service to pay the delivery fee.. the tree will not ride successfully on top of a Prius.

I own a brand new 2011 f350 6.7 and noticed a slight noise coming from the engine, only under throttle two weeks ago with 2000 miles on it. Well, early this morning I walked out and seen 4 very small oil spots in the driveway. Took the the truck in, and they ordered a new power steering pump. 3 days to get the part, 2 days to fix it. Oh, not to mention ps fluid all over the truck. Still love the truck.

bummer.. but thats what the warranty is all about.. sometimes a new part doesn't work as expected..

well, they said some 'clamp' came loose, or was not tightened enough and wherever it came out, it filled the fins on the cooler in that area.
they kept the truck all monday, took them a while to get the fluid cleaned up.

there's just no need for such a price on a hose like this.
i would have went to napa and had one made.

yeh.. shoulda had it in polished stainless for that price.. but when you're stuck, you're stuck..

no one HAS a hose in stock.. and Ford wouldn't warranty THEIR work without replacing the hose, which they said was the cause of the problem to begin with.
