heated seats

I have the same problem on my 2004 expedition the switch is on the left side of the seat by the power seat control. I don't think mine has a light that even tells me it is on

That's not a factory location for the heated seat controls in an '04. The heated/cooled seat switch on '03 and '04 (maybe more) is in the console above the cup holders. If your seat has only heat, and it is a button on the left side by the power switches, it is a seat from another year/vehicle. The location you describe is where the control was on my '99.

I think that is the heated wire mat configuration, the typical failure you are describing is a broken wire. If you roll the leather back (should unclip at the lower edges), you will likely see alittle burned spot where the wire is broken. I think you can buy the mat itself. If not from Ford, definately aftermarket.

It comes right up, it's not that bad. It is stretched tightly over the cushion, but once you compress the foam and get it started it will come off easy. A little fincky going back on, but patience will get it done. The PITA is that you need to do it twice to diagnose / confirm, then again when you get the parts.

Neither one works in my 2000 E.Bauer. Is the heating element only in the cushion or are there elements in both the back rest and cushion. Dorman makes both aftermarket so you do not need to visit the dealer. The one thing I am trying to figure out is if it is a direct replacement. Dorman makes it sound like it is. The part numbers are 641-207(backrest) and 641-208(cushion). According to a seller on ebay, the 641-207 replaces the following FORD #'s

Replaces Ford Motor Company# 1L1Z7864810AA
Replaces Ford Motor Company# 1L1Z7864811AA
Replaces Ford Motor Company# F85Z7864810AB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# F85Z7864811AB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# YL1Z7864810AB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# YL1Z7864810BB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# YL1Z7864811AB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# YL1Z7864811BB

and the 641-208 replaces FORD #'s

Replaces Ford Motor Company# 1L1Z78632A22AA
Replaces Ford Motor Company# F85Z78632A22AB
Replaces Ford Motor Company# F85Z78632A23AB

Heres the link for the ebay seller- free shipping also

I had the same problem , light on and no heat . I pulled the seat then pulled the lower cushion to find broke element wires at the very back . These breaks were very easy to see as they were burnt . I just sectioned in some longer wires to give a little more slack so they don't break again . The repair was free and took about 2 1/2 hours. The only special tools needed was a pair of hog ring pliers to put the covers back on.

Hardest part is getting the hog rings off and then back on, well that and finding exactly where the broken wire was ...
I just pulled the whole seat out of the car when I did mine.

Is it possible to repair the wire and replace the hog rings without removing the seat?

Assuming you've taken the proper precautions to avoid deploying the side airbags, if so equipped.
