Used V10's are hard to find up here!!!!

I've had my 2002 F250 for almost 7 years now. In that time, the V10 has given me zero problems, besides the normal manifold studs. However, some of you may or may not have known that Illinois winters are catching up to my baby. I've just rebuilt a rotted bed support and had a cab corner replaced. I've por-15'd it and fluid filmed it within the past few weeks, but I realize that mother nature wants its metal back, no matter what now. I've been on the search on and off for a new truck, or keeping her, swapping gears, and trying to stay ahead of the rust, which is a losing battle. It really sucks because it's been fun. I test drove a newer 6.2 and even though it is a real nice truck, it just doesn't have the #'s that the V10 has. I test drove a used 6.4, and even though that thing has guts, I'd be afraid to go into something that many others have warned me to stay away from. My truck still looks excellent, from the outside and the interior is mint. So, I'm at the point of taking advantage of a strong used car market, and looking for a newer V10. The way I figure, I know now where the trouble spots are on the bodies, and I can address them while the truck is younger and try to keep the next one forever. Here lies the problem... There's almost no 2008-2010 V10's around! The only one within 100 miles of me is a 2009 F350 V10 with 71k miles on it. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on that one, but I'm looking for any 3v owners input on any problems that may be lurking on a newer one. I know what I've got right now, and that is a pretty reliable setup which within the next 10 or so years feels like it will be reduced to a frame and drivetrain!

I'm looking to stay local. The reason being, is that I'm not just trading in my truck, I'm also trading in a car that I inherited payments on, which happens to be a car that I don't want.

There seems to be a few here in PA. Six months ago they were as rare as a Dodo bird.

The one I'm considering is a 2009 F350 cc Harley Edition. It's blue with flames, which looks pretty cool. The problem is the higher mileage, 71k in 2 years is a lot to me, considering that mine has 72k on it, and it's 10 years old.

I wish I could share the link on the one I really want. It's a 2008 F250 FX4 cc V10 all black with black interior. 30k miles. If its still for sale when I head to Daytona in February, I may have to shoot over there.

Good luck on the search. V10's are hard to come by. They're great engines. Thirsty but great!

There is a 2010 KR in Denton, tx (just outside Dallas), according to cars.com
Fly in buy and drive home! Just be sure to ask a lot of question before you buy that plane ticket

If I could find a lower mileage 250 or even 350 crew cab lariat or FX4 4x4 I'd pull the trigger. The one nearest to me is a real clean '09 350 Harley c/c. I just don't think that I want to make payments for the next 4 or 5 years on a 71k mile truck, even though its clean. I'll keep looking and try to keep mine as nice as I can. If I've still got mine come March, 4.88 gears are going in!

I'm also in the market for a V10 equipped E350 and have been using online searches for just over a year so far. eBay is good only because its a national database of available vehicles and a sellers reputation can be checked too. To me there's nothing better than actual users who report their experiences in order to best gauge who I'm spending my money with.

Another advantage of eBay is most dealers are willing to do customer pick ups at a nearby airport so distance away is less of an issue, at least in this aspect. Traveling this time of year is pretty much out of the question but it is a good time to start looking. Who knows----if the right deal comes along putting up with air travel now might be worth the hassle I'm sure it is.

Good luck in your search----has to be something somewhere that's perfect for you!
