97 7.3 powerstroke

i have a 97 F-Superduty 7.3 P/S, it was warming up in the morning, ran a few min and died,, tried to restart, glow plug light not coming on, checked fuses, found Glow Plug/PCM fuse under hood blown, replaced and tried again, instantly blew fuse, any thoughts where to start

The heater in the fuel filter housing has shorted out most likely. Unplug it, make sure the plug won't hit anything to cause it to blow again, and replace the fuse again.

I believe there are 2 plugs on the housing. It should be the bottom plug that goes to the heater.

Glad you found out the problem! I see you're new to this site, Welcome!! You will find a whole lot of information about your truck on here. I see Jim (LxMan1) has moved this thread to the Super Duty/Heavy Duty forum. You will find the answers to most any 7.3PSD questions in either the 94-97 7.3PSD forum or the 99-03 7.3PSD forum There are some very knowledgeable guys that hang around those forums. Any problems you may have, or questions that you might have, you will get answers there.

The connector for the fuel bowl heater should be the MIDDLE one, not the bottom one (that's for the water in fuel sensor). And if you don't want to replace the heater, then don't. Just leave it unplugged. Your profile doesn't say where you're located, but unless you see a lot of sub zero temps in the winter, you'll likely be just fine without the heater. Just e sure to tape up the wiring connector so you don't blow that fuse again when it touches something. For whatever reason, the same fuse that powers the fuel heater also powers the PCM (powertrain control module) which runs the whole engine and transmission. Blown fuse = no go.
