5.4 block coolant drain plugs allen tool size?

Does anyone know the allen tool size for the 5.4l engine block coolant drain plugs? It seems to be between my 7mm and 8mm. I'll go buy a 5/16" and try it, but it seems so close to the 8mm (7.9375mm), I think it will be too big also. 1/4" would be too small (6.35mm). Is there a such thing as a 7.5mm allen tool?

Yeah, 5/16 hex was too big and I think 9/32 would be too small. I was able to use a T-50 torx bit to do the job. I am still curious what the correct tool is. There is about 2.5 quarts that drain out of the block after the radiator is drained.

I just did mine, yea, I just skipped the coolant in the engine block. Look real tough to get to one so I convinced myself that there wasn't that much coolant in there anyways...etc. etc.....

Block coolant drain plug location

The plug I found was on the driver's side just below the rear freeze plug. It is maybe a 3/8" pipe thread plug maybe two inches above the oil pan. My Haynes manual has a good photo. It was real easy to get to on my 2wd, maybe the 4wd are harder. The T50 Torx was the only tool I could get to fit, even though it is obviously a hex fitting. There might be one on the passenger side behind the starter, but I could not feel one behind the starter. Make sure to recycle the toxic coolant at a Pep Boys, a lube place or similar. Sorry no photo.
