Probably the quickest, easiest way to find out how fast you're going is to get a GPS system. About $100. I don't have a working tac or speedometer in my '56 and the GPS works good.

I have a gps
I'm just more interested in my tac for hauling and what not
But I'm still wanting to make them both work
Just to make it work
I'm wanting the truck to be really nice when I'm done and I want everything working

It'd help if you stated the year of your truck as well as how equipped IE; motor and trans 4 wheel 2 wheel etc etc.

Include the colors of those four wires exactly where they are and where originate from.

92 diesel speedometer is electrically driven off of the vehicle speed sensor in the rear differential.
tachometer is electrically driven off of the tach sensor in the timing cover, next to the oil fill.
