97 f150 transmission problems

97 f150 v8 5 speed 4x4, just put a new rebuilt tranny in and speedo isn't working and second and fourth is hard to shift into is there any connection to these problems

Does the gear lever not go into second. Or do you mean that the trans revs higher before it drops into gear.

check to see if the connection on the speed sensor is ok. Sometimes the connector comes off and then the trans wont shift right had the same problem with my 99 and when I connected the speedo sensor problem fixed
