Anyone have rear wheel dyno numbers for a 302/A4?
In the 1990 Ford Light Trucks Album, Ford lists the 302 truck engine as having 185 net horsepower@3,800 rpm.It also lists 'taxable horsepower',which is 51.2 for both the 302&351 truck engines. This would mean the average stock 302 would be putting 133.8 horsepower to the rear wheels.

I have a book that did a build up on a brand spankin new 89' f-150 4x4 with a 4 speed manual. The truck has only 6,000 miles on it. I can't remember the rwhp #'s stock but they were something like 130, I will check to verify. In the end they turned about 190 rwhp all modified out.

Yeah, 130 rear wheel horsepower for a bone stock EFI302 truck engine is just about right on the money. In contrast 4WOR dynoed a factory fresh EFI351 in a '88 Bronco, and got 142 rear wheel horsepower@3,500rpm.Ford's factory rating for the EFI351,in 1988, was 210(net)@3,800rpm/315 lb./ft. of torque@2,800rpm.Ford gave both the 302&351 V-8s 51.2 'taxable hp',so a good running bone stock EFI351 should've been making closer to 160 rear wheel horsepower(158.8 to be exact). It could be the 351 4WOR tested was either 1).sickly,or 2).slightly out of tune.Getting back to the EFI302, mine has mods done to it,such as a mild RV-type camshaft, and a true 2 1/4" dual exhaust system, with Flowmaster mufflers.I estimate it to have around 260bhp,or close to 185-190 rear wheel horsepower....the net rating Ford originally gave this engine. Swapping 4.10:1 gears in,for the stock 3.55:1s helped performance too,but that just helps the 302 wind the tachometer up quicker. The cam & exhaust upgrades are what got the numbers up in both horsepower & torque. I haven't had it dynoed yet,but I know it will have impressive numbers(as far as a 302 goes).:7

Cool thanks for all the replies. Some off-road mag just started building a '92 Bronco w/ 351W. It made 181rwhp stock and 188rwhp with a cold air only...that is what got me to thinking.
Any ideas of mine: have pullies, headers, 2.5" y-pipe, 3" Car sound cat, 3" Flow*******, MAF w/ 80mm meter (from '94 Stang), K&N FIPK, and bumped timing/fuel pressure? About 165-175rwhp?
Thanks!

The only way to get an accurate number is to have your truck dynoed. I plan on having my Bronco dynoed soon. You can "guesstimate".I want to know exactly what the Bronco is putting to the ground. Maybe I'll make the trip to a local dyno my Christmas present?:-X12 Sure beats getting socks.
