I was wanting something alittle brighter for my map lights and wanted to switch over to LED's and was wonder if anyone knows what bulb to use?

map lights are 194
and if you have rear courtesy lights, they are festoon type 578 (3 of them)...


order the 5k for max brightness. 6K is just more shade of blue.

 

Note that the Recon part number 264163 kit works only for the rear seat dome light in a Crew Cab without a Sunroof. The are not the correct bulbs for the front map lights. Recon mistakenly indicates these will work, but trust me they won't work in the front. You need the 194 Led bulb for the front map lights.

 

Im so freaking confused when it comes to Bulbs. Can you tell me the exact bulb that goes into the front and which one goes into the rear? There are 4 different 194 bulbs. The 264163 kit comes with 3 bulbs. Dont wanna order bulbs that I dont need.

Appreciate this thread too, alot of small mods that we can do. Just installed the recon smoked lens and 3rd brake light today.

 

I think any of the 194 bulbs will work in the front map lights. The recon kit only work for the back seat lights and I found that the bulbs were pOorl made and too long for the socket. Usually recon stuff is gOod but this kit needs some QA.

While we are on the subject of lights and not to hijack but...

Does anyone else think it is strange the the back dome lights do not come on with the front dome lights in a crew cab?

Is there a setting that I have overlooked that will make them work together?

 

PITs - In my Crew Cab the center light of the rear light cluster comes on but not the two map lights in the cluster. I recall reading a thread on this or another forum where someone installed a resistor between the lights, wiring them together so they all three came on with the dome light switch/door open, but could still be individually turned on. I will look for that string when I get a chance and post it if I can find it again.
Pitts- here is the link to the video showing how to modify the rear Dome light cluster so all three lights come on when the dome light it on. He actually used two diodes, not resistors - my mistake.

when replacing the 194 map lights up front, has anyone had issues with them blinking on and off. usually over bumps and yes they have had the low glow on occasion after all power is off.
is this due to a "cheaper bulb" or the style chosen?
