What type coolant I can use in this 7.3L?
Well after read couple threads here. I am little confused now.
Some say you can use supertech green coolant from walmart but some say NO NO because it will eat injector cup.
This truck is 00 with 220K miles. It had new water pump before I bought. Coolant is green. 7.3L powerstroke was made in July 98.
I bought one coolant bottle from NAPA it turn out it was wrong. Coolant is red. I read that I not supposed put red coolant on mine because they will cause gel and eat injector cups. Is that true? $17 a 1 gal

For what it's worth, in all my research and reading, I've never come across any information stating a coolant will eat an injector cup.

Here's some information I've posted previously:
The following information from Gooch pertains to why ELC's are not recommended for use in early '99 7.3L PSD's.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mostly it's the injector cups. International, who made the engine, found some compatibility issues with the older injector cup material, sensors, front cover, seals, gaskets, o-rings, and probably some other stuff when using coolants that contained organic acid technology (OAT). Coolants like ELC's (usually Red) and G-05 (usually Gold) will have these OAT's. Conventional coolants (usually Green) will not.
So International revised those components on all 2/2/99-up build engines (SN 940614-up), and began recommending and factory filling with HD ELC coolants mid-year 2000. Never looked back.
You could use HD ELC's in the older engines, but you run the risk of having to replace the cups and maybe some other stuff. I always try to recommend conventional coolant meeting ASTM D4985 with SCA or a pre-charged conventional coolant meeting ASTM D6210 for those. But it's your call, and some owners use the ELC in their older engine successfully. For the 2/2/99-up builds I would highly recommend upgrading to HD ELC.
BTW, if you need to check the build date of your engine, you can find it on the valve-cover tag (driver's side), or stamped on a machined surface on the underside of the engine, behind the oil filter and just ahead of the bell-housing cover. You may need to wire brush/clean it to read it.

Thank for info. That was great. Going give you rep.
I think I misunderstand on engine date. Going to look at valve cover tomorrow to make sure I got date correct. It had AD injectors. It not early 99.
I had 6 of those Walmart.com: Super Tech 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant Pre-Mix: Automotive
Do I should avoid ethylene or propylene glycol?

So do you have a '00 truck that has had an early '99 engine dropped in it for some reason? If that's the case Fleetcharge will work for you. You can get it at Tractor Supply, Advance Auto Parts and other places I'm sure. If you have a 99.5-2003 engine, from what I've read International recommends red ELC coolant such as CAT ELC, Peak Final Charge, and some others. Either way, none of it's real cheap!

More info on coolant than you will EVER want to know...

On E99's conventional green coolant and adding SCA's(Supplemental Coolant Additives). Yes the Cups can be changed

Ok I was going to do oil cooler.
I bought 5 gallons of Fleetcharge coolants. But after check google search I think I made mistake. edit I found I could get cheaper. It Mobil one EC-1 ELC coolant.
It ok to use Fleet Charge but it doesn't have rate of Cat EC1.
This is what I had. Fleet Charge Specifications Sheet
I read it had Low silicate formula But everybody say NO silicate it will clogged all cooling system.
I want double check with you people.

Think of it this way, the Supertech coolant you wanted to buy from Walmart is a coolant you would have to add SCA's to, if you used it in your truck.
The Fleet Charge already has the SCA's in the coolant, so you don't have to add any to it after you fill your truck up.

What kind of coolant do you want to run in your truck? A conventional "green" that needs a SCA's? A hybrid OAT like the Ford "gold" or the Zerex G-05? Or a heavy duty OAT Extended Life Coolant?

Everybody I was talk about from Powerstrokenation. They say silicate could end abrasive and destory water pump and clogged oil cooler.
Clogged oil cooler problems are pretty much a 6.0L PSD problem, but not 7.3's too often.
Double check that stuff your friend sourced for you. Make sure it's not a 50/50 mix.

It come from Big semi mechanic shop. They get bulks of those. I will check. If it 50/50 it ok to use?
