2004 F250 5.4l mpg

I was thinking about upgrading to a f250 because my 95 f150 is starting to drain my bank account. I found a 2004 f250 with a 5.4l in it with 61600 miles on it in my price range. I started tring to look up what kind of mpg's it gets but I stated getting confused some sites said 12 city 14 highway others said 10 - 13 another said 15 - 19 one site claimed that it gets 35 highway. The sites were all over the place does anyone know what they get and is there any problems or quetions I should look for/ ask? Thanks.

I own an 03 with a 5.4 and I get 11-13 mpg pretty consistantly. It runs a K&N air filter in the stock airbox and flomaster exhaust from the cat back, synthetic oil and I clean the MAF when the oil gets changed...nothing special. Not terrible mileage in my opinion but Im sure it could be better.

11-15 MPG for a stock 5.4 f250 depending on bed size and cab configuration seems reasonable.

19mpg sounds as funny as 35mpg. Nfolden I'm right there with your mileage. Depends on what I'm towing or not towing, 10 to 13 and mines an '02. Is the 04 a 3V? Maybe just a bit better mileage can't see much though.

I've kept a spreadsheet of my mileage since I bought the truck in Nov '07. I have about 40k miles of data and my lifetime average is 14.1mpg. My all time high is 17.9 on a long interstate stretch on the way to TN last summer. My all time low is 10.3 towing. For my driving style and location, 13-15 is the norm.

All of the mileage claims you've read are realistic except for 35.

Hope this helps.

I was hopeing for something better than the 8-10 city and 11 - 12 highway I get from my f150. The truck I found is a regular cab 8ft bed 6 speed. Thanks for the responses.

I read something else about the V10. I read that it is more powerful and gets better fuel economy than the 5.4l is this true?

Haha... thanks

I started out keeping it out of curiosity of what mileage I was gonna get. Since I started in the winter it wasn't so good so I decided to keep track of it through the summer. Next thing you know I had a year's worth of data so I just kept on with it.

It makes for some interesting plots....

Its half true LOL. The "more powerful" part is true. I don't think anyone on here will tell you it gets better than the 5.4L except maybe exclusively towing. It is true that its not THAT much worse than the 5.4. In some cases its only 1-2mpg worse.

Mine is a 2010 F250 with the 5.4. I have to do a spreadsheet for gas reimbursement for work. Supercab with a Spacekap, 1000 pounds of tools and parts, all highway driving. Low of 10.4, high of 12.2 mpg.
