CHECK 4X4??

Had to engage my e-locker today and noticed "check 4x4" popped up on my screen. The 4x4 works fine but when I click in the locker it pops on. Has anyone else had this problem. I havent had a chance to look into it yet.

I can't say I have had this problem yet but I am curious how you manually locked in your e-locker?

I am pretty sure you have to have 4x4 engaged on those trucks to engage the locker.

Yes you have to be in 4x4 hi or low. I had to use 4x4 to pull out a stuck 18 wheeler on the side of the road and wanted to make sure I wouldnt spin so I locked in the rear and "check 4x4" lit up on the dash. So after that I tested my 4x4 hi and low on a dirt/rock driveway at work and the 4x4 system is working just fine. Just seems to be something going on with the elocker. Going to check some fuses here in a few.

One thing to add. "check 4x4" only comes on with the locker engaged.

silly question but were the tires spinning when you tried to engage the e-locker? I dont believe it will work if the tires are spinning or if you go over 25MPH

no, I was sitting still. It will engage at speed under 25mph if both tires are rotating the same speed. I have used my locker a number of times offroad. Not to be rude at all but I know how my 4x4 works, I use it a lot during the summer and at the deer lease. I know when I can engage hi,low, elocker and everything. Im not new to 4x4s at all. Was just curious if anyone else has had this problem like mine. Thanks for any help or feedback in advance

Ok can someone explain to me how to lock in the e-locker? Is there a button or switch to do this or does it happen automatically when you put in 4L?

It is on the 4x4 ****/switch. It can only be engaged in 4-hi or 4-low (f150). Once you turn the **** to 4x4, it can be pulled outward (just like the foglight switch) to lock the e-locker. This is of course if you have this option on your truck. It only came on the FX4 models in 2009 and 2010. For 2011 it was spread more across the line for different models. Hope this helps

My truck was a bit stuck this morning and ended up spinning a bit to get out (in 4hi). I then had to do a u-turn later on in snow and spun the tires a bit (again in 4hi). During that u-turn my "Check 4x4" light came on. The 4x4 seems to be working fine still. Any ideas what triggered the light? Please tell me the 4x4 system in a 1-ton truck is not so weak as to be able to handle a bit of spinning in snow!

My 2012 XLT can use e-locker in both 2wd and 4wd. And 4-low makes it stay in to 56mph. E-locker is turned on by pulling the 4wd **** away from dash.

The "4x4 check" appears when a 4x4 fault is present. System will most likely stay in whatever mode it was when the fault appears. That's why you can keep using 4wd.
