I guess I don't understand your post about heads cam etc. it sounded like he put new heads, cam, intake and carb on it... it's just a stock motor, any 302/5.0 will turn 6000rpms but it's not making any power..

You tune the engine so the components work together.... At least that is what i do.... On the other hand.... You cant tune mis matched components to work together.... Looks like the poster was able to make his mill run well....shouldnt we be happy for him?

Ummm, yes you can. But this also depends on what you consider as mis-matched parts. Take for instance a stock 302. Adding a highrise dual plane intake and 570 carb will wake it up to the tune of 20-30 horses. And contrary to what the advertised operating range of these intakes is(1500-6500), they work fine from idle to whenever the engine stops pulling. Add a mild cam, the operating range will move up slightly, but not enough to make a soggy bottomend engine. Add headers and do a little port work to the stock head's exhaust ports and the motor will still pull from off idle, but the topend will move upwards. Swap down to a Performer or stock 4 bbl intake and the topend will suffer, but the bottomend will stay pretty much the same. Now, all that said, slap a Vic Jr intake and a big DP Holley (sau a 600 to a 700)on it and the bottomend will suffer but the topend will move upwards. Put the DP holley on the highrise dual plane and the topend will still be there, but the bottomend will come back. But it'll suck fuel like there's no tomorrow. I've heard the same old stuff repeated about "mis-matched components" not "working together" but that's just not always the case. In many instances, parts that may seem mis-matched will work together to give you a different result than those that seem matched, but they'll still work together.

baddad... we are totally in agreement... Many people get trucks that have never been tuned up... ever.. and they run terrible.... with a few simple adjustments and some upgrading/replacement they can get them running great....

torque issues

OK I just cleaned my throttle body and intake manifold and at first it was fine but now it seems like my torque has died off until i get to higher rpms...

It is possibly that some of the gunk that the carb cleaner loosened up got into one of the air bleeds or venturis... And because it seems to be fine at higher rpms it means its on the primary side of the carb... where the choke horn is.... I would start with a visual inspection of the main body.... the air bleeds should be to the right and left of the venturis.... also the accelerator pump squirter could be clogged.... most likely its the air bleeds.... A pick and compressed air, q-tips, more carb cleaner are all good tools for cleaning these things out.... I am guessing that you sprayed it, ran it, shut it off and re-started it and then it started acting funny? That can happen sometimes.... not probably a major problem.....
