Engine Knock???
Expedition 1999
5.4
1st problem. Pipe behind the water pump, coolant leaking, intake removal needed to fix it.
Problem solved supposedly. After a day of driving the truck big engine knock and its louder when I go faster.
Mechanic never returned calls
This time I decided to DIY.
All signs of spun rod bearing or main bearing.
Dropped oil pan and I found a thin 1/2 inch metal shaving, inspected all rod bearings and main, they are good, crank journals good, connecting rods, wrist pins no signs of up and down play, cylinder walls are good, all this work looking for a bad bearing and I am back to zero, I don't know what else could be. Oh torque converter bolts/nuts are tight. Spark plugs are good
Intake leak?? Exhaust leak??? Valve train????
Can somebody give me an advised..thank you.

There is so much horrible noise there you could have a blocked oil gally to the heads causing the lifters to not pump up and make all that clatter but it does sound like all the rods are knocking, it could also be an oil pump failure, it seems that the mustang guys have that problem way more than anyone else.

I did check the flexplate carefully and there is no cracks, I just came in from outside, put new oil and filter, tried to start the truck but the battery was dead.
My god feeling is I didn't have oil pressure because the oil pick up screen was clogged if not my next step is to remove valve covers.

After being absent for two weeks .. I think.... I finally found the problem, first I checked all the connecting bearings, main bearings, OK, then I removed the intake manifold because somebody else did replace the coolant pipe that goes under, so I put new spark plugs, new gaskets.
Exhaust manifolds ..NO LEAKS.
Last night a removed the valve covers and I couldn't find anything wrong...BUT!!!!... I noticed the timing chain in the passenger its completely lose, on the driver side the guide has a red plastic piece that is missing on the passenger side.

Hello senior ford mechanics, I am back.
I don't know what else to do, I have taken everything apart, the timing chain wasn't the problem, connecting rod bearings and main bearings are good, pulled the valve covers and all the components are tight, turn the engine and check every rocker, springs..etc.
Car running, disconnected every coil to find out what piston is giving me the knocking sound, didn't make any difference.
Changed spark plugs, same problem, vacuum leaks...none.
Used stethoscope and I can't find it.
No exhaust manifold leaks, replaced the intake manifold gaskets.
Flywheel is good., torque converter bolts are tight.
QUESTIONS.
Clogged catalytic converter?
Bad fuel?
Bad knocking sensor?
See my new video where the sound is not that bad as the first one.
thank you for any advice.
I am obsessed with this problem I know its easy to buy an engine.
