PCV Valve F150 2004 5.4L V8

From what I have read in the forum, the PCV does not exist on the 5.4L. In it's place is a heater element that acts as an electronic control?

My source of confusion is my Haynes manual that says to replace it as scheduled maintenance. Question is does this heater element need to be replaced regularly? B/c from what I can tell it is expensive and difficult to locate for purchase on the internet.

You do not have an actual PCV valve. it is part of the valve cover all it is, is a restrictor in the baffles. the wires if you have them are a heating element that the computer turns on when it is below like 40 or 50degrees. no need to change it.

The haynes manual covers the 4.6 and the 5.4 and I believe the 4.6 has the valve and the manual just doesn't note that.

Well if you have a 3valve engine you don't have a PCV valve but if you have a 4.6 2v motor you do have a replaceable PCV valve, but if you do it still is probably fine, just check flow, unless you never change your oil and it is sludged up your fine, But keep to motorcaft parts, stay away from all others.

A Motorcraft PCV will be no different than any other aftermarket item. In the case of the 5.4-3V you'll need to replace the valve cover. That is a completely different issue.
