Thumbs up Any other "nerds" in here? < smile! >

I know we have some real nerds in here so why not tell the truth about your home network and get it out in the open.

Ok so here's some information about my home network, although it's never finished:

FIOS > Router #1 (Internal Network) > Router #2 (DMZ'd in separate private subnet for testing) > Router #3 (Range Extender for Basement) > Router #5 (Range Extender for Garage) ------> all routers utilizing Site-To-Site VPN for security purposes.

Various devices:

* Netgear Gigabit GS-108 Switch (everything internal on the wire is 1gb speed)

* Synology DS-207 NAS (Network attached storage) with 2+ TB of storage. This server/NAS serves the following purpose(s):

  • Surveillance Camera controller & PVR
  • Central File Server
  • Web Server
  • MySQL Server
  • Photo Server
  • Multimedia (i.e. iTunes) Server
  • Movie steaming
  • Software Repository
  • Central Print Server
* QNAP TS-119 Turbo Station NAS (All the functions stated above plus some). This NAS has 1.5TB of space.

* Buffalo Gigabit LinkStation (backup to my NAS's)

* Maxtor External HD (hooked to the Synology for external space)

* Western Digital 320gb drive (hooked to the Synology for external space)

* Brother MFC-495CW (Print/Scan/Copy/Fax)

* IBM 24 port switch (used in the DMZ for "testing/ethical hacking")

* Macbook Pro I7 quad core, 16gb ram, ... what else can I say besides it's badaass?

* iMac 24. My home PC... nothing else to say about it.

* Various laptops (i.e. two Dell XPS M1210's, Dell mini 10v, eeepc901, etc) for various testing environments/scenarios.

* Various 5ghz & 2.4GHZ devices (extra strong antenna's, bluetooth adapters, etc)

* Wii .... it's for fun!

* PS3 ... it's for FUN!

* 3 Apple TV's (current with 160gb internal drive and 1tb external) with boxee, xmbc, couchsurfer and other cool gadgets. If you get bored, you'll always have movies available from the home video server or you can get them from Netflix, XMBC, Boxee, and numerous other places. Also, it is 1080p which is awesome!

.......... numerous other PC's , parts, and gadgets.

Operating system/environments:
* Debian Linux
* Redhat Linux
* Fedora Core XX
* CENT OS 5.X
* Mac Os
* Windows 95, XP, Vista, Windows 7, ....... and more

I guess that makes me a geek. So be it....... I have and always will love bleeding edge technology.

< high fives! >.

-Tim

This isn't stuff that I'm selling LOL. This is stuff that I have for my own personal use.

On the iMac, you can get them but I'm warning you that they are not CHEAP. They are some of the best built machines that I've ever had the pleasure to mess around with. Mine is a bit outdated, however, that's why I have my Macbook Pro I7 with dual-core processors, 16gb RAM, and lots of other goodies.

LOL. Funny part is that I didn't list everything on my list. :-) I did that because I don't want to come off as bragging. I'm a real nerd when it comes to electronics and stuff like that. Always have been . If you like the Mac my suggestion would be to try and pick up a "Mac Mini". They are very cool, take up very little space, and pack a huge processor punch for taking up very little room. I've always been a mac fan since they run on linux (my favorite operating system). I equate it to owning a car when I can modify the engine (i.e. kernel). With windows, you can't compile the OS or modify it to suit your needs nor does Microsoft want you to see the code. :-)
