I use Rotella T 15w40. My Rover V8's are flat tappet engines and Rotella T has one of the higher ZDDP levels.
So I just use that in my 460 also.
Same filters too, Baldwin B2 or Wix 51515.

35k mile intervals? Wow. It must be working for you if its fixing to hit 500k though. Have you ever or do you still do UOA's?

I have had good luck with Amsoil as well.
Extended drain intervals more that pay for themselves.

When money is tight you cant go wrong with the parts store oil change specials.

From my experiance on motor oils 20 yrs as a master mechanic at a ford truck dealership .One stay away from pennzoil .I have seen more major engine failures from using this oil than all others .Personally I use only valvoline oil in all gas motors .Motorcraft oil is a great oil for gas and diesel just don't use diesel rated oils in a gas motor . shell rottella is mostly for diesel use read the label . Most mechanics use vavoline it keeps your engine clean .In the past 20 yrs ago all gas engines using pennzoil had bad sludge problems oil pump screens plugging up rings seizing up on pistons .You could tell by pulling the tappet covers a engine using pennzoil you could scrap the sludge out with a putty knife by the coffee can full on over head cam engines the camshafts would wear off the lobes .I have also seen sludge problems with castrol gtx oil and havoline oils all other oils seem noy to have sludge problems .maybe the new pennzoil is better but from my experiance as a mechanic I'd be hesitant to use it .I have rebuilt 300 6 cyl 2300 4 cyl 351 400 v8 engines 350 chevy 4cyl pontiac and like I said 99 per cent of these engines failed because of pennzoil use .When a engine goes to hell is shot with less than 100k miles or less some at 50 k .Basicly why they failed was because of oil sludging oil pump screen plugged cam holes plugged piston rings seized up from sludge.Even at oil change intervals of 3000 miles these problems were happening .Also oil filters are very important.buy a good one fram motorcraft ac delco mopar are some of the best filters .WE used to go to seminars on oil filters and for your money Fram filters are one of the best.

Rotella T 15w40 is fine for gasoline engines and meets the Ford specs for my '85 460.
Fram oil filters...yeah, I'd probably use one before using the Big Lots store brand. But I can get Wix or Baldwin in any town so I can't imagine ever buying a Fram.

I suspect you would find a ton of people contradicting that statement on BITOG

Not only there but pretty much EVERY automotive forum, Fram sucks.
I highly suspect any info coming from some one that recooments Fram filters.
Oh well, internet advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Well To all you guys out there ask any 50yr plus mechanic about Pennzoil.Maybe its better oil today but 20 yrs ago I seen more problems with Pennzoil than all other oils combined and even at 3000 mile oil changes guys were having engine problems plugged oil pump screens seized piston rings sludge .After you tear down enough engines running Pennzoil you will know what I'm talking about.I have used Valvoline oil for over 40 yrs and I know it keeps your engine clean .All my trucks have went 200 k with no major engine problems.

This summer we switched to 5Qts M1 0W-40 and 2Qts M1 HM 5W-30-->Two oils with M1 most robust additive packages. Along with an Amsoil filter!

The 5.4L 3V has a remarkably {Smooth & Quiet} start up! and idles and runs smoother then it ever has.

Winter Oil Change-->I will probably change to M1 HM 5W-20

I use Rotella T6 with Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter, at 7500 mile intervals, and have good UOAs.

So here's my question for the group regarding Fram products:

Has the quality changed since the Allied Signal days, then Honeywell, and now Rank ownership? I'm a huge admirer of Honeywell but the reasons for them selling CPG make perfect sense. I remember all the well-deserved flamespray Fram got after the famous expose with the oil filters cut open to reveal poor construction but surely they must have gotten the message by now?!

I've run Autolite spark plugs exclusively for over 10 years now after trying all varieties under the sun. Autolites seem to take any abuse I can put them through and can get them anywhere for $2/each. They're part of the CPG culture so I have no further reason to doubt Fram for corporate cultural reasons.

Thoughts?
