Frantz makes a good filters for cars. Look at Gulf Coast 2-1/2 gallons additional oil. Big difference.

Pennzoil Yellow Bottle 5W-20 & 5W-30... With all the Moly-Boron-Calcium-Phos-Zinc that a motor could want with 5K mile OCI... 5qts of either with 2qts of Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 makes our 08 5.4L 3V PURRRR!! BUT!!! M1 HM 5W-30 is an Awesome Oil as well according to what it's VOA shows.... One of M1 robust additive packages...

@Scooter70, Did you run the spinner bypass on that Mack? My dad ran a spinner on his Freightliner with the 60 series Detroit back in the 90's using Mobil 1. Changed and cleaned filters @ 15,000, add makeup oil.

Detroit pulled the engine down at around 350,000 miles and said there was barely any measurable wear on the engine.

Pretty amazing!

Depending on the vehicle, I usually use M1 high milage, maxlife, or any of the shell rotella products.

Wink REDLINE OIL PRODUCTS & Power Steering "Whining!"

=boxcar_tommie22;12229562]i have always used red line products. all my fluids are red line
=========================================
Boxcar Tommie; I love RED LINE's POWER STEERING FLUID. True story; Red Line's Power Steering Fluid was the ONLY, repeat ONLY PS fluid to quiet the common Ford power steering "Whine / Chatter" in my '87 Ford Aerostar XLT.

There was nothing wrong with the power steering, the rack or the pump. For some reason, the power steering on Fords, Mercurys and some Lincolns of the 80s and early 90s had an unmistakenable "whine". Tempos, Tauruses, LTDs, Thunderbirds and Cougars, Fox Mustangs ect. - I could tell those power steering whines without seeing the car first - it was a Ford product!

RED LINE Power Steering Fluid was the only fluid that actually quieted that PS "whine". Not completely eliminated, but much quieter. Even Ford dealer mechanics of that era simply shrugged their shoulders and said it was "the nature of the beast" when it came to customer complaints from 80s era Ford products.

RED LINE OIL is very popular with "car guys" here in Northern California.

I use Shell Rotlla T 15-40. I change every 10,000 miles and use a napa gold oil filter.
I drive commercial truck and we use Shell Rotella T. Our mechanic has no problem with this oil.

I try to use either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum where possible. Here lately it's been the Motorcraft semi synthetic that the dealer puts in.

Amsoil, their top 0w-30 in everything, from my old 577 hp(dyno'd at rear wheels) 460 to the daily drivers. Change the oil once a year which usually amounts 3k on my Galaxie, 8-10k on my daily driver (2 weeks now a '98 E150) and the 16-18k on the wifes Saturn.

I change the oil on my F350, 4x4 (6.4) every 3-5k miles. I use motocraft, Rotella T..I was considering using synthetic Mobile 1 for diesels..but really, would there be any advantage of using a synthetic when I am changing every 3-5k??

In a word, no. Synthetics, especially the primarily PAO ones like Mobil and Amsoil shine in extreme arctic cold. Even on the Donner summit, NorCal does not get cold enough to make a difference. Rotella and Delo are so good there is really no reason to use anything else. Unless you are willing to go 10-12k miles, just forget about it.
