So thats what the big ring is in the oil pan. Just take it loose and drop and i have a clean out screen? That is interesting.

Yes, the oil pump inlet screen is held in by a wire bail and is easily removed for cleaning. If the engine is sludged up, it will be immediately obvious (glop, glop...)
